So for those that dont know (or dont frequent SoapBox :D) i am 38 weeks pregnant, so my horses are on the 'low care plan!'

All that went teats up today though......HORRENDOUS weather here - put fresh rug on thr soft horse this morning and hoped rain would let up a bit. It didn't.

Saw horse in the field in the distance shivering and tucked up so thought id better bite the bullet abd go get him. Walking that far is out of the question for me now and OH away but luckily Soft Horse leads off the quad.
Lots of head tossing, eye rolling and dramatic shivering later I got him back to the yard and into the stable, where he immediately recovered, turned his nose up at his food, and had nothing further to say to me.

I'm now tired, wet and achey all for a horse that could not have been more uncooperative or ungrateful!

Why oh why do we do it!?

Btw......the welsh horses were happily grazing as if in the Bahamas.
Note to self - get more welsh horses :D

Anyone else had fun rescuing wet horses tonight???

That was me Sunday evening!

Had to rug a new one up today as she's a finer type, and I caved and rugged my Welshy...who at 17 and somewhat responsible, decided me walking up to her in the field with a rug was far too scary! -_- Cowbag.

My 2 hunter boys are warm and toasty living out still no problem with lightweights.

The cobs are obivious to the weather with no rugs.

I hope not! Our yard is a foot under water, and the paddocks are all sprouting lakes. My lad is still out, and I got a call from one of the liveries to ask if she can use my stable as her's on the main yard has water coming over the step. Not much I could say really (her horse doesn't need to come in, shire cross cob) but I will just have to hope that my lad doesn't need to come in!:(

Yes and soggy hens and a bloody great bull.
I must have mug written all over me, as both the horses and the bull
ate the hay and went straight back out.
We also have a small stream running through the barn, outhouse ankle deep in water and not a thing I can do about it.
Oh well, back to the fireside

Checking horses at 7 this morning, all under trees in field nibbling hedges, all warm if wet, then as I went out the gate that's sloppy and muddy down I went on bum in mud!!! I was on way to work so had to go home, change clothes then caught in traffic and late for work! Got home tonite to find letter from council about my chickens being noisy in the mornings, and neighbour complained, so had to find new home for them, and garden is flooded ! Lovely eh.

Just back from a rescue mission, caught the WB no rug but he's seriously tough and the TB rugged and suffering a bit I then spotted the clydie / welsh D no rugged in the other field standing in the mud tucked into a elder tree he has a shed but I could see him shivering from a distance so I thought I better bring him in caught him got him in the stable and noticed he was almost dry and covered in shavings ! He must have come out of the shed when I came onto the yard the beast so he's tucked up inside to.

The burn in the field of the ones who live out burst its banks and flooded 3/4 of the field so they were paddling. Luckily they still had some grass. Its stopped raining at last but lots of trees and branches blown down.

Mine have come in the last two nights, and go out in the grass winter turnout pen, which is grassed over hardcore. Even that is mostly underwater, but my mare is part hippo and spent her time in there up to her fetlocks in water snorkeling for wet grass rather than eating the dry bits round the edges!

Patterdale, where on earth is hubby - leaving you to cope at 38 weeks with your first child!!! No brownie points for him.

He's just had to go away for a couple of days, unexpected and unavoidable! :(
He will be back on horse duty when he's back! :D

Gotta love the timing of the extreme weather though - the only time I'm on my own!
Typical!

:D
