As title really.

My D looks a bit mismatched at the moment, bum high, chunky cobby legs, lean body looks quite gawky!! Not sure if its because he had an op back in feb and he lost alot of condition and hes only now putting the weight on!
What are you doing with your 3yr olds and how are they looking? Pics would ve good. will update with a pic when am on the laptop

This is an old photo as she is about 9 now but she was hree when it was taken

She was a bit fat here and went very quickly on a diet
Did a bit of showing but apart from that she was a lawn mower until she was backed at 4

This is her the day she arrived aged 5 months

She is a young girls best friend now and is very much loved and a very quiet welsh cob indeed

Hi cant post pic as on on phone but when I got my girl at 3 she still had a lot of filling out to do, I didnt do anything other than grooming and in hand walking till she was 4 as she just clearly needed more time. She dud fill out massively in that year though and even went uo 2 rug sizes, she didnt really stoo till she was 5!

My Cob, at 3 was quite immature - well no he wasn't he was what a 3yo welsh cob should be, he was just very immature looking compared to the 3yo show cobs! I want this pony to have a long career under saddle so I refused to pump him full of feed to make him look like an 8yo and ****** his joints.

Here's my boy looking very gawky

He is also standing gawky in these too;-)

I bought my sect D as a 5 year old and he looked immature in that he had chuncky legs and big feet but his body really needed to fill out. He is 11 now and it's only the last two years that he has looked like his legs belong to his body.

This is the creature I bought

He's rising 3 in the picture, but with the angle its hard to tell what he looks like. At 3 he was really quite mature, only about 14.1 but all looked good. Then in his 4th year he was all legs, he shot up and became very gangly but never had a problem keeping condition on him. Its not unusual though, I've seen plenty of welsh young stock that don't resemble show ring hippos :)

It will probably take a little time and patience but I'm sure he'll pick up.

My Sec D is 4 now and still bum high and filling out. Temperament wise he is like a puppy but so smart and willing and watches every move I make. He is a dream to work with and be around.

This is when I bought him:

Mine gawky with huge feet and a body of 2 halves! Filled into his self now at 7, even his feet don't look to big any more.

Cambrica.... I WANT YOUR PONY!!!!

I hope mine turns out like yours! Jealous!!!! Lol

Thank you for your kind words :D Your boy has a beautiful head, trust me give him time and patience and you will have a cracking pony ;)

I agree with the comments regarding in-hand cobs and the weight issues. I keep mine trim and show locally until he is fully backed, which is going very well - slow - but well ! Just not rushing him. Hopefully I will then end up with a good all-rounder. Watching him play loose in the field I see potential as a dressage pony as he has all the moves naturally so I need to get educating myself a bit there - unchartered territory
Im just enjoying him being young, taking our time and waiting to see what the future holds.

Thank-you Cambrica. I am lucky because I have good pictures from shows and they always look better in show condition. If you saw Sian today you wouldn't recognise her because she is out in the field with her foal having wintered out, but she is a very happy girl.
Solomon is now being ridden in Scotland I think as a gelding but luckily I have a cracking yuearling colt by him...... Nantwood Unique, as soon as possible I'll get some decent pictures of him and post them.

Piccie should work now!!
As you can see hes like a pony of 2 halves at the moment. He is approx 14.1-14.2hh and bum high again. Its as if his bum and back end are growing and the rest is yet to catch up!
He is putting the weight on now the grass is coming through, still a bit more to go yet. I suppose he will look better when he isnt so ribby.

Sian

WOW! your cobs are impressive.
How do you get them looking so chunky and grown up?!

this is my weed :o

He has actually put on a fair bit of weight now, slowly but surely he's getting there. We have a show in 3 weeks so hoping he will be less ribby then.
He has a lovely shine on his coat.
