I need to replace some fencing and could benefit from some drainage ditches. Post and Rail is so expensive for the size of area we need done.
From looking around the internet it seems a good solution to have a ditch and then a wire fence the other side of it. Does anyone have any experience of this? Any pics would be great. Thanks

Are you talking about a HaHa? You mainly find them on country estates such as Arlington where I work, thye're a 12-15ft ditch, nearly 2m deep sloping into it. the idea was when you looked out of your window gardens blended into parkland without being inturupted by fencline. It's worked great with our boys, they've escaped twice in 10years and that was when they were younger. Saying that, we're assuming thier jumping the haha but who knows.

No the ditch would'nt be as big as that as there would be a fence the other side of it. My OH found the info on a horse fencing website. Love the name though!

Getting a suitable ditch dug will take space and cost too.

Why not run some semi permanent electric fencing inside where yours need replacing. Something like the Fieldguard system,. with solid posts .

Thats true. We could do with some drainage ditches though really. Good idea about the Electric i'll take a look. Thanks.

My small paddock is on clay soil so it gets very wet. My husband rented a small digger and put a ditch all the way round the field, in front of the fence. At the time, the fence was stock fence which has now been replaced by post and rail. The field is much drier than it used to be, so that is a success, I was worried the horses would be stupid and slip into the ditch, but they haven't, although my Vet did say that horses ARE stupid enough to do this.
