Weve had new boy for about a month now and as he was fully clipped was a lovely chocolate colour . Now his coat is growing its coming through grey but is very wirey like pigs hair.

Is there something in Dun colour that makes the hair course? or is it just him ?

My sisters pony is being clipped tomorrow, his coat has grown thin wirey grey hairs on his neck and chest. His actual coat is a mixture of black and brown...! Very different to how it was in the summer.

I have a mouse dun pony. For the two weeks in July when he has his summer coat he is beautifully sleek and smooth, but when the winter coat appears it is indeed very coarse and wiry hair.

The bristly hair that is coming through is possibly due to his breeding than the colour?

I had a dun sec d who when first clipped went strawberry coloured, then after a second clip would go a mouse grey. He did not get the coarse hair.

However my black irish cob does. He grows a coat like a yak and has to be clipped 5 - 6 times over the hunting season! I just clip the stubbly hair off until his summer coat starts to appear.

Nope mine seems to be the same - when he's clipped hes a greyish honey coloured and when coat grows out he's slightly darker but not much he is buckskin and is pretty much same colour most of the time - coat doesn't go wirey or coarse depending on clipped or not its usually the same whatever time of year jst longer or clipped

maybe your horse has got grey somewhere in gene and may be greying out?? or liek someone else said getting coarse due to his breed?
