I bought my gelding from a yard in Bedale seventeen years ago and subsequently found out he was bred by a family called Buckley.
He wasn't gelded until he was four and was running with the herd before then.
I once contacted the daughter of the breeder who said he had sired a few fillies and she was just breaking on in at the time we spoke - this would be about fifteen years ago.
She told me her mother bred my gelding - they called him Ratatouille and he was out of a mare called Miss Mouse or Merry Mouse by a registered TB stallion called More of a Crowd.
Does anyone know of this family or stallion?
Thanks for any info.

Thanks Cally. This may change my search. I was unaware that More of a Crowd was chestnut, it didn't mention his colour on the Wetherbys site.
I still would like to hear from anyone who knew the Buckleys and bought any of their horses.

Well FionaC, I bought him from Bedale Riding Centre nearly eighteen years ago now. It is a long time ago and the papers I got with him was a Wetherbys registration form that was never completed and sent in so it was too late by the time I got him when he was rising seven. I also got a certificate of the mares covering by the stallion and I got a photo supposedly of his sire. then about ten years ago my handbag was nicked out of my car and I never saw it again, the papers and pic was in it. So sketchy details really, so there could be some doubt about the name - why, do you know of something?

Just remembered I'd made some notes years ago and just found them - it was Lucinda Butler I spoke to, so no Buckleys.
I did find out that the sire stood at Kirklington stud in Oxfordshire, but I'm fairly certain my lad was born in or near Bedale. Apparently he was bred for a man to hunt but he didn't make the height.
