Hello - it would be a massive help if any of you who have a grazing license tell me a few bits of info...

Firstly, is it just for part of the year, or a whole year?
Is it automatically renewed or do you have to get off the land?
Does the grazing license include stabling for any of you?
Do you pay a single fee upfront or is it monthly rent?
Finally, how much do you pay? (I know that this will vary depending on where you are!)

Cheers!

Here is some information,http://www.netlawman.co.uk/dl/grazing-agreements
As understand it you are buying the crop ie grass off the field. I have one for a field I rent, I pay in advance 6monthly but it is a yearly license . Some landowners like a break of a month as they are frightened that a tenancy under the Agricultural Tenancies Act could be created. I have a field shelter on the land but the rent of stables really should be covered under a separate agreement.

They're all different. The one I used to have from the local coal company would auto-renew, but was for 50 weeks of the year so you had to get off for two weeks a year (to stop you amassing grazing rights). We did look into a council license the other year, but from one of our local councils they are just for the spring/summer and then you have to get off over winter with no guarantee that you'd get the same land again the following year. With the council land round here I think there are the odd plots with stables/shelters, but as I say there's no guarantee that you'd get the plot you want - it's pretty much names in a hat at the start of each year.

I used to for neighbouring land - this was for licensed to me for 11 months of the year only.
Break clause said no stock in December (to be honest it was summer grazing only as was so wet I couldnt use it till April/May time anyway)
This was grazing land only, no shelters etc.

Sign a new licence yearly but pay rent quarterly. We pay per horse rather than for the field itself. Costs in the region of £500 per quarter for two horses.

Rent includes grazing, automatically filling water trough & field shelter and grass topping twice a year. Used to include harrowing but they don't do it any more.
