As title really, it seems to be the only saddle that my preferred saddlers want to bring out, another saddlery has more choices to try but not confident in their saddler

I wanted a second hand saddle from a known name, not a leather version of a Thorowgood, but wondering if anyone has got one and what they are like, perhaps I am doing them an injustice :o

Is there a particular reason that the K&M is the only saddle your saddlers want to bring out? I was in a similar position to you, wanted to get a second hand (couldn't afford new!) jump saddle from a good brand, but it turned out that the K&M worked best for us. I've had it for about 18 months probably now, and I really like it. Perhaps it's not the snazziest or well known make, but it is lasting really well, does the job, and I like riding in it. I can jack up my stirrups nice and short in it no problems (although I do have quite short legs!).. and the knee/thigh blocks are all adjustable so it's nice to be able to move them about to suit. Also as you know the gullet it changeable so stand more chance of it fitting other horses/my horse if he changes shape drastically.

Probably not much help but I certainly wouldn't discount them! :)

Thanks, nice to hear from someone who has one :)

It just seems that the saddlers I am contacting don't stock any other jumping saddle, I don't really want to order another type in as have no idea what I want.

The bigger saddlery shops around here that do have more choice I don't really trust their saddlers to sell me the right saddle having had bad experiences in the past :o

they are 'ok' . i wouldnt choose another tbh though. i had one for my last horse and i had no major complaints but I always felt it was very hard to sit on and the leather quite stiff. I also found i was pitched forward quite a bit in it although the flocking was done at the front a couple of times in the first year. However i have freinds with k&m saddles and im not impressed with how the the leather is wearing or how the flocking is bearing up, one seems to have a slight ridge in the seat. Mine went with my last horse when i sold him and I actually got a robert whiattaker T6 thorowgood jump saddle on ebay, funnily enough i much prefer it despite the fact its meant to be the same stamp. Personally, if i had the money id be looking at saddles direct for a 2nd hand ideal grandee or similar.

Is it worth posting where you are and seeing if anyone can recommend a fitter, perhaps from further way but who would travel? I think the K&M are fine saddles for the price, it all depends what you want and there are tons of other models out there.

Neversaynever, that was my worry they are "ok" but from experience my horses never makes do with "ok" and I could be buying problems  Also concerned about the pitching forward too as that is a habit I am trying to get out of, not helped by my current saddle.

My original plan was to buy a decent second hand proven make of saddle but can't find any saddlers with second hand saddles to try. The one I did try, under suffering as it was £1,100 and over my current budget, was a Ideal Impala Pro with mono flap and really wasn't sure I liked the feel it gave me having not ridden in other jumping saddle it was hard to judge!

If anyone can recommend a saddler I would be hugely grateful :D I am near Windsor, Berkshire.
