.... Hector is worth?

I have had some seriously HUGE (major 5 figure) numbers thrown at me all summer with regards to his value, but, like anything, he is only worth what someone is willing to pay and I want to price him to sell. The 3yo that took the Championship at Royal Norfolk in the Sports Horse section, is in the current H&H for £12,500 - he was also Champion at several other shows (including some Cuddy stuff I think).

When we were at R. Norfolk, we parked next to Alistair Hood and he commented on what a good stamp he was almost as soon as we unloaded and when he saw us with the red rossette, he smiled and said "I thought he would, well done". The following day, my friend who showed H, asked him how much he thought H was worth and he said "Must be 5 figures".

In his age group H is unbeaten! We can't count East of England, as he pricked a foot and went badly lame and we had to withdraw, before judging got underway. He won the Sports Horse Yearling Class at Royal Norfolk and was the Champion Eventing Yearling at Arena UK - he had exceptional marks in everything bar his movement, which I have since found out was due to him having a bad back (he attempted to jump out whilst I was away and fell heavily on landing - this was 6 days before the Futurity) back is now sorted and so is his movement. He was also awarded a BEF First Premium as a foal.

He is 5/8 TB and 3/8 WB. Sire is an up and coming TB from Cornwall (Kings Composer, by Sousa ex Pullandeese (sp?) - she is also the dam od Devil's Jump). H's dam is my mare B, who is by Sportsnight (Int Eventer, Grade B SJ) and ex a Grade A SJ by Atlantus.

This is the best confo. shot I have of him - he's not standing brilliantly infront as he kept trying to walk off!

Well Des wanted 6k as a 2y.o (though he didn't get it) for Dazzling Bay (Pavo yearling champ and reserve supreme to JL-C's colt and Sport horse champ Pembrokeshire county show 06).
As a yearling

When you say you've had those figures thrown at you do you mean offers? If so surely that gives you an idea?

P.s he just looks so similar in the face and front end as the KC I used to have!

I think valuing a youngster is a minefield. Anyone who pays serious money before it's broken in obviously has too much money and not enough sense!!
He's super, a really smart boy but I think he's going to be at his most valuable as a 4 year old with a little bit of a ridden career under his belt. Right now I think Severnmiles provided a good comparison

No, not offers, which is why I am so windy about them!! That is a good comparison - ta! Did he sell DB? Was he reserve to the Mill Law out of Best By Miles?

Kings known for throwing typey babies, with good fronts. It's only people that know King or his offspring, that see him in H, everyone sees B. I think he's a good mixture of them both personally.

I can definitely see King in H! No he didn't sell. I think he's keeping him to send to Louise as a 4y.o now.

I told a lie it was Jane H-R's colt! Never say no. I got confused as it came out of Jennie's lorry.

Minefield it certainly is!! Hmmm keeping H till he's at least 4, will only make it harder for me to sell him.

Ha, you shall just have to become an owner then!

After watching Harry Meade ride yesterday, I'd certainly like to send H to him!! Hmmm I have 2 lottery tickets I've yet to check.............

Snap, if Rhi is still with me Harry already knows she's coming to visit as a 4y.o! They could end up stable mates, though she'd only be there as a 4 and 5y.o for a while for Pavo & BYEH as if Nicky M isn't classed as a pro I'm sure they'd fall about laughing at me! LOL

Perhaps you could contact A Hood and ask if he has any clients looking for horses to show, although he will no doubt charge commission it may be a stress free way of selling him.
How about Jethro? You can either email a pic or post one, if necessary a vid and ask his opinion of his worth, he must have a pretty good idea as he is buying and selling his own horses he's bred. If he makes you a daft offer you know he is worth a lot more!
Most horses are worth more as three/four year olds, now you have hung onto him this long I would keep him until three, then you can get decent money easily.
Or if you can afford not to sell him right now why not approach a top rider like WFP and ask if he has a herd of youngsters he's running on himself that Hector could go with until he is three? Some riders offer very good deals provided they eventually get 10 % of the selling price.
The other way is do an ad in H and H and put either substantial offers or ten grand on him, if no-one comes then you know that's too much. It'll only cost you the ad to find out.
I have seen Langaller foals advertised that have won at County level several times for sale for less than three thousand, so it's very much if someone likes him, they might pay a lot, but if people want three year olds, no point in selling him right now..

I know diddlysquat about sport horse youngstock prices, apart from just reading the ads, etc. - but he's a very classy-looking colt!

But if a Cuddy-qualified, multi-champion 3yo in the same category is being advertised for £12,500, then I would have thought that asking a 5-figure price for a yearling might be pushing it a bit, however nice he is. After all, the 3yo is nearly ready to back and start work, etc.

Or am I having a blonde moment here and missing something?

I do think he's super! Why not keep him and show him a bit more - see how he does, before making a decision?

Do you have any more showing to do with him this season??:

[/ QUOTE ]

No, I was going to take him to the SHB(GB) Hunter Show (Sports Horse Section) at Addington this week, but decided he had done enough - he has travelled up to Newmarket fom Cornwall, on top of his showing and I think it's enough for young legs personally! It's why I'm not doing the PAVO thing with him either.

I dreamt you got 10k for him... but that was LAST year

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL I know!! Now just make that dream become reality will you

LMAO!!! Your offer has gone up!! You guys could only muster £200 in April!! PMSL!!!

I only wish I can find him the kind of home that you guys would offer him!!

You speak total sense!! It's why I'm questioning what I have been told! I mean one person (MFH_09 will know who) told me he was worth £20,000 - put the fear of god into me I can tell you!!!

But di dthey offer £20k? If not then the opinion is largely worth didly squat.

He is a super youngster and at 4 I'm sure will sell very well but most people seem to either buy foals of 4 year olds going on, there's not much market for stuff in between.

Ah, fair enough. Was just thinking you could have a 'For Sale' notice in the Catalogue.

I wonder if it would be worth hanging on to him now over the winter - and advertising him for sale at the start of the next showing season???

Perhaps not so stupid though. The person I stable my horse with was offered that for her yearling a couple of years ago - sure regretting not taking it now.

Thats exactly true!! If you don't sell it as a foal you've almost certainly got it until its a 3 or 4y.o if its a sport horse.
