Anyone I have spoken to has said any friesians they know of that have been backed have all been very easy and even lazy - completely unphased!
Some people have said they have been nappy but that's about the worst I have heard!
Obviously all horses are different but was just wanting to here any friesian experiences you have all had? My little girl has a bit of "I love myself" attitude so think she may have something to say about me getting on her when the time comes! Lol.

My aunty backed two recently and they were both fine, very laid back. One put the odd buck in out of nappiness if I remember correctly but it was never nasty or scary.
My Friesian X is lovely too, I think they tend to be very laid back, fast learners. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies :)

Most people have said the same about them all being very good so hopefully my girl fits right into the breed sterotype :P

ive help back my friend friesian , she was a complete saint just stood there wasnt bothered at all ask me in may next year and i give you an update on mine aswell

Yep, my girl has been brilliant, not had a single issue or setback at all. We've taken it all very slowly, i've been very conscious of not pushing her, but she has been perfect. Im just teaching her to jump now and yet again, she is not putting a foot wrong! My old criticism of her is that i would prefer if she were a little more forward going, but she cant be 100% perfect all the time i suppose lol!

It's very difficult to generalise, my last Friesian was very laid back and relaxed, my current youngster is very hot, sharp, and extremely forward going. It depends on the individual horse and, to a certain extent, it's bloodlines, as to whether you've got a quiet, docile one, or a sharp and hot one! As a breed, they seem to have a tremendous capacity for learning, and I have found them to be very quick to learn (good AND bad!), so be careful not to teach them anything you don't actually want, and be very consistent with the "No" and the "Good Boy" voice commands.

The best advice I can give you is to take things slowly. Friesians tend to work in Freisian-time, and mature very slowly, be they speed demons or laid-back Larrys. Their bones and joints take time, so don't rush the work and let them mature.
