Anyone have horses in 2 locations?

I have 2 horses on full livery at a lovely yard, but I am looking at taking on another private yard which will be DIY for 2 youngsters which I have rescued.

Its much cheaper and better set up for DIY than my other yard.

There is 4 acres and 2 stables so not big enough for all 4 .... They are about 5 miles apart, does anyone have horses at more than one location?
 
I've done it twice when I couldn't get grass livery for all 3 of mine together...only a couple of miles apart but both situations were short term (3 and 4 months respectively) and wasn't too bad for that length of time but I was very glad to get them all together finally.
With your new set up, could you not alternate turn out and stabling...two in at night...? Might be worth a thought for the long term...
 
Yep they're about 15 mins drive apart. Been doing it for three years now. Half the time spent 'doing' ponies is actually driving!
 
Sort of yes, Both times have been when my daughter has had a horse on loan and its had to stay at their own yard- Actually current one can be moved but we have chosen not too as her owners yard has better facilities including a school which we don't have and so my daughter can ride in safety when the lights not great now after school.
Id have said the first time round never again but now id say its do-able if the circumstances are right.
 
I have done, and I didn't enjoy it. But part of the problem was one yard closing at 5.30 and the other having no electricity - in winter, that was a bit of a nightmare as it was often 5.30 by the time I got to the first yard! I ended up doing nothing much with either of them. It would have been fine if there had been a later closing time/better facilities, as I could have tacked up and ridden one at 6pm, then driven over to ride the other at 7.30pm. If you are taking on a private yard then there's nothing to stop you going down at any time! You could even go after dinner on nights when you are hungry/cold, or if it's rained and you fancy a change of clothes/etc.! Would love my own place so much...
 
Yes, im doing it at the moment. I have 6 at home ( although only 4 are mine), and 2 at livery about 15mins away. Purely down to the fact my 2 are both 4 year olds and need to be kept ticking over, and my facilities aren't ready yet. Its working really well, but only because the livery yard is amazing, and I only have to go at night,( as they get turned out in the morning)

The support from the other liveries has been invaluable. So best of both worlds id say !
