*whispers* And if so, have you taken any steps to make the floors a little more solid than just soil? *whistles innocently*

(I realise that this contravenes planning laws so if you'd feel more comfortable pm'ing me I'd be grateful.....)

We just uber deep littered them. They were only used in the deep winter but mucking out properly in the spring was a mission though! Mainly because of tree roots though! lol Forks getting stuck under them mostly... lol

Couldn't you just compress and level it, and very thick rubber matting down?
Under a roof, I should think any waste would leak down and be absorbed, without getting too wet?

we put woodchip ( given to us by local tree surgeon) and then marine ply on the floors with rubber mats on top. The woodchip compresses down but drains and the ply and mats form a solid dry base. When we moved the stables the marine ply was reusable ( amazingly) and we just begged more woodchip!

I levelled the soil off and laid very thick good quality rubber matting down, I have a shavings bed at the back which have not gone damp ever in the 3 years that the stable as been there. I would advise the stable in put in a dry and well drained spot, I have put road plannings down in front of the stable as I found that it could get muddy there where the horses walk in and out.
Inside the stable when it was first finished.

And around a year later after I had a feed shd attatched.

I have just realized that both piccies were taken on the same day so as you can see stable has not got damp, as I definately had the stable for one year before I had the feed shed attatched to it. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi - yes, I did this. Just put scalpings/planings down on the earth, levelled out and put rubber matting down. We needed to relevel a little as the base settled but has lasted fine and any wet that leaks throught the matting joins just soaks away. Obviously this can be done again when you move the stables around to meet the legal requirement...

I put good quality rubber mats down in my mobile stable with rubber strip screwed all around the inside edge at the bottom to prevent the bedding going outside. I then put a shavings bed down and have used it like this for 4 years quite happily. My lad is in every night all year round so uses it as a normal stable in his field.
The mats in mine do get a bit lumpy as the bedding finds it's way underneath a bit but my horse does not seem to mind and still lies flat out in it every night!
