Thanks everyone, just posted an update. It looks as though there is a small fracture but we need to wait a few more days to get clearer x-ray pics which will hopefully reveal exactly what we are dealing with.

I'm feeling very relieved really, there is nothing displaced and everything is in the right place so treatment should be fairly straightforward.
