My old horse is looking fantastic this year, he is retired and lives in a fat paddock and has one small meal a day to take the danilon and Riaflex complete that he needs for problems in his front feet. I have noticed this last week that he has a patch of sweat on his left shoulder about 4 inches long by 2 inches wide. He is not sweating anywhere else although it has been warm. And this patch is now bleaching in the sun. I have not changed his diet, or introduced anything new in the past fortnight although he has only been on the Riaflex for 6 weeks.

Anyone any idea why he should have this specific area of sweat?

my horse has this too - a previous post on here said it was nerve damage? mine isnt bothered by it so have just left it....

Would be really interested in teh nerve damage idea. We have never been able to establish the exact course of my horses lameness and have had about 8 vets with differeing views. All decided it was left fore but my EMRT expert has always maintained it is shoulder. this sweating is coming from the area he diagnosed as the problem area. But the lameness started 6 years ago and no vet has accepted shoulder

The big girl gets this - on her shoulder as well. It's exactly where she sustained a serious kick as a two year old. Not a mark on her now - but always a little patch of swweat when it's hot.

would agree nerve damage, my old mare had this for quite a few years after slipping onto her shoulder onto concrete! It did go eventually and never seemed to cause her any issues. Think the recent thread about this was on the vet section a few weeks or so ago.

My old mare developed a similar sweat patch on her hindquarters where she had a very serious tear injury after a nasty altercation with a gate.

My mare started getting small patches last year, one on her side and wither and this year just one on her wither, they disapear over winter. I was recomended to try NAF DTox by the back lady, and the patch has gone, the hair is back to dark brown now and you can't see where it was.

This is one of the bleached spots from last year.

My mare has this - a tear drop shape on her shoulder; took her to the stud and they immediately said it was nerve damage..... until they saw she had the same on the other side in the same place

So its just her, no problems at all, some humans get certain sweat patches too!

My horse has a triangle patch where he sweats - I am pretty sure that it is damaged nerves as it appeard not long after an accident in a lorry when a partition collapsed. His shoulder was quite bruised after the incident and since then he gets thie patch

mine has never had trauma to that spot - however he has had non specific lameness in his left for which one vet was adament was navicular syndrome, one vet was sure it was coffin joints and another thought ringbone.but every one proofed not to be- scintigraphy showed flare in his shoulder but vets all ignored that and said it wasn't relevant. the EMRT practitioner has always said shoulder but as I have no insurance left for him and he is 20 i have basically had to give up fighting to get an answer and pain manage rather than cure. hes comfortable - but if I am getting this as a result of nerve damage then the possibility is it was as suspected shoulder damage causing lameness rather than the other way round.
