Because my feet constantly get wedged in my stirrups, buying a bigger size - 5.5!! However, I can't find ANY treads to fit this size?? Anyone know where to look online ? The stirrups are Shire Prussia ones is that makes a difference.. thanks!

Are you wearing the correct footwear?
Only time I got stuck I was in a yard type boot that are pretty wide, wider than my riding boots.

You need a stirrup which fits your boot - otherwise it is dangerous. Having done a quick google I can't find any treads for 5.5 either. You may need to change your stirrup I'm afraid.

Grip and some cushioning from the metal.

Stirrups have roughened surface for grip, and you can have too much grip, you need your feet to slide out if you get hung up. TBH if you need cushioning from the metal I would say too much weight is being put on them - no-one ever had treads for many years until about 15 or 20 years ago. I would say they are less than essential.

you should see my stirrups, wide tread and full of spikes!!

I have used 4 3/4 inch treads on 5 inch stirrups before and they were fine. If 5 inch treads are the biggest that you can find, there's no harm in giving them a go, they won't break the bank if they don't work.

Having ridden in stirrups without treads for a few months, I really noticed the difference of having rubber treads back in them. The wider surface compared to the two metal bars was quite a relief. Particularly noticeable when doing a lot of forward seat work.

In 20 years of riding, I've never got a foot caught, even after a fall with the super grippy cheese grater stirrups.

They're not essential, but they do however making riding more comfortable for some.
