I really, really want to join a hunt this season, but have no idea which is the nearest one to me (Newmarket in Suffolk)
I read about Granta Harriers in H&H. Anyone know anything about them.
Does anyone know how I can get involved, protocol for a newbie etc.
Are there any pre-season meets so I can get to know some of the people before I get there and feel a total stranger?!
Plus, my horse is young, so I don't want to over face him (he can be sharp and strong), so maybe a quieter meet if there is such a thing?
I know there are often ways round jumps that might be too much for him right now but if it gets to be quite a long day for him on his first outing, can you retire or is that really frowned upon? He is only 4 and is likely to have tons of energy at the start but really start to flag as the day goes on and I don't want to push him where he blows his mind or huts himself.
Is 4 too young really to take hunting?

Sorry... so may questions!

For NEwmarket it would be the Thurlow Hunt. Its a great hunt and the countryside is brilliant. (haven;t gone hunting myself but been to the meets and know the area,) best place to try is the master of the foxhounds website which would give you the contacts for the hunt secretaries in suffolk. THey would possibly be the best to answer your questions.

Good idea N!

It would be really good to go with someone I vaguely know and is in the same boat as me!
I can't wait to go but I'm sure I'll be really nervous and probably won't jump the first time! And will try and stay right at the back if I can hold my boy!

How's the confidence coming along?
