I am currently house hunting in the south Oxfordshire area and considering Lambourn. Does anyone know what it’s like for livery? Are there any arenas for hire etc?

Or anyone in South Ox have any good tips for nice horsey areas to look at?

TIA 🤗

Sorry not Lambourn but am in South Oxfordshire (and have a livery space at the moment! ;)).

East Soley is near Lambourn and is meant to be nice, DIY only. Sorry don't know of others. The hacking around there should be lovely.

I kept a horse in Lambourn for a year and a half; the village is small but around many galops, some private yards with full and DIY livery, prices average for South Ox. The arena can be rented at Oaksey House or J&G Equine, usually free in the evenings. If you want a quieter ride, I suggest you take a look at the Chilton or Aston Tirrold, they have good exit routes and less traffic.

Thanks, that’s super helpful!
Do you mean that the roads around Lambourn are really busy for hacking?

Lambourn itself is probably be cautious of. Racehorse central with lots of coming and going. But the general surrounds are great for horses, good ground, hacking etc and I’d be surprised if you couldn’t find reasonable yards. Excellent vets on your doorstep.
Could be better for quantity/quality of competition centres (if that’s your thing) but that’s me being picky and liking things right on the doorstep, there are options.
I’m not close enough to really suggest yards or specific villages but I’m sure others will join in for that.

Thanks for the info! Right now I’m just hacking, and the bridleways look fab in the area. I would like to event when Spud pony is a year or two older but will just have to travel a bit more for competitions, as I have to stay in the general area for work.

I'm a few miles from Lambourn. I'd avoid the village itself, it has a reputation as being fairly rough on a Saturday night! But the villages around are lovely (Upper Lambourn, Eastbury, the villages mentioned above). There aren't many part / full livery places in Lambourn village (Kate Honey eventing is the only one I know of) but there are a few around there - I'm near Uffington, where there are three decent sized yards, and there are some near Chilton Foliat as well.

The hacking from Lambourn is incredible, miles of quiet green tracks over the Downs and no real road work required. There are arenas to rent nearby, and also Letcombe Riding Club (15 min drive from Lambourn) is cheap for a year with unlimited use of their all-weather arena. They have hardly any members so it's almost always empty!!

Feel free to PM for more info.
