want to take my horse hunting this coming season? I will pay all fees and transport him there you will just have to turn up and ride him. He is a 16.3hh 6 year old tb gelding although quite chunky. Never been hunting before but been on across country rides with large groups of horses at a gallop so can't imagine he will be a nutter. Quite a brave jumper. He is fully insured and i would like you to have rider insurance just incase! Prefferably with North East Cheshire Drag Hunt or Cheshire Farmers however would consider other hunts as long as they aren't a million miles away. Horse is in Leigh, Lancashire. He is surplus to requirements so open to suggestions as he doesn't want to be a dressage horse and i dont want to jump!

just a quick thought i personally wouldnt go with either of those packs, the holcome, wynnstay, cheshire forest wuld be far better options.

I agree with Joe C I would go with the two you mentioned as they are drag packs it could all be a bit fast and blow your horses' brains. I would go with they Holcombe or one that Joe mentioned on an early morning Autum hunting when not too many people out it will be nice and quite for your horse to ease him into it.

Personaly I think it is down to how you ride a young horse more than anything else(and i have introduced quite a few to hunting over the years).

Hi i would like to invite, joe and steely dan out with the north east cheshire to see if the new huntsman can provide them with a good day......

sorry if not replied to anyone will get on it pronto. Like i said im open to any suggestions and would gladly let him go out with different hunts as long as they arent millions of miles away, however have found NECDH to be very good and can always start him off at a beginners meet.

Cheshire Farmers has a ten hand shetland out every week. I think we can find you some company if you don't want to go fast :) And if you don't want to jump, we always have a way round for the non-jumping followers.

To be honest, the last meet I would go to is the Children and Beginners. The field is usually one of the biggest, because of the low cap, and there are a much higher proportion than usual of riders who are completely out of control. I have fond memories of a C&B meet where I was forced to jump both the child and the pony who swung across the front of the fence as I was about to take off :-0 !!

maybe we will stay clear of those meets then :D my 16 year old daughter would take him herself but shes not the bravest out hunting so probably not a good idea for his 1st time.

Prettypiaffe,I hope you got my PM,I think you will like the new Huntsman for the NECDH. He undertands that a Drag hunt should reflect,Fox Hunting, and is not just a mad steeplechase for a select band.

I usually hunt with the Vale Royal Bloodhounds but i've been out with the cheshire farmers which in no way resembled a "mad steephechase"!!!!
As pointed out earlier they have a 10hh shetland following and a number of non-jumpers, with a drag or bloodhound pack the line will have been set and checked so the field master will know exactly where he's going and be able to advise on the best days to attend but i've never found it fast and furious and i'm not the bravest.
