Tell me all about it! Im moving down to Shrewsbury area in the spring, hopefully April but just depends how quickly I can rent out my house up here. I know its a bit of a way off yet but i'm ridiculously excited and would love to know lots about the area and get to know any of you down that way too :)

House I will be renting is on a little yard so I dont need to find livery but any info on the horsey world down there would be fab.

I intend to use the new start as a kick up the **** to get doing things with Pete (we have basically just been blasting round the countryside since I got him in July) so would love to join a riding club, start having lessons and maybe try a bit of dressage and xc by the end of the year. Tis all very exciting:D

Thanks :)

Hi :)

Whats the hacking like in general? I think im going to find it strange not being able to just go anywhere (within reason) as you can in Scotland! Also anyone have any experience of any of the riding clubs, I notice there are quite a few in the area. Any recommendations for instructors? Or any other pearls of wisdom about the area - like name of a good pub :D

"wavey" another one here but I am also from scotland originally. I love it down here, very friendly.

Where about in Shrewsbury are you going? There are a few good instructors in Shrewsbury, Dean Price is good he is based North East of Shrewsbury. There is good RCs in the area and some great fun rides.

I'm near shrewsbury! Planning on joining a riding club soonish so might see you there, I think the closest one for me is Shrewsbury & District. Hacking depends quite a bit on whereabouts you are, but there are quite a lot of bridleways dotted about, and some lovely hills to explore depending on where you are / how far you'd travel.
Make sure you explore the Longmynd, I used to live on top of it and it's beautiful! When you've got to know it a bit better (take a map and walk a route first!), you can take your horsebox, park it somewhere at the bottom and ride up - really nice way to spend your weekend in summer :) It's in Church Stretton, so about half an hour from shrewsbury centre? Agree with there being some great funrides - there was a "pink" fun ride at Berriewood last year, raising funds for breast cancer - everyone was pink, loved it!
