Hello. I've just moved to the Lancaster area - I live in Bay Horse, keep my horses in Dolphinholme and work in the University.

I've been very lucky in that I have found a lovely yard where I keep my horses on my own. But as I keep my horses on my own I'm struggling to meet other horsey people.

Does anyone have any suggestions for riding clubs or meets in the area that are friendly or just fancy taking pity on me?

North Lancashire Bridleways Society
Next meeting: Tuesday, 14 January 2014 7.30
By way of something different we will have some comical poetry about horses and farming life by local farmer and poet Jim Stewart

Hest Bank Memorial Hall, Hanging Green Lane, Hest, LA2 6JB

I am new to the area too and found this friendly group a great help.

Im afraid despite it being quite rural there was never much horsey stuff going on when I was there. I went to the uni and looked into the riding club but they traveled to an RS in blackpool! it made more sense for me to get the train home and go and ride my own horse!

The only thing I would suggest is advertise at the uni for a rider (if you have more than 1 that's rideable). Gives you someone to ride and help with chorse etc?

People are pretty friendly in the area (Lancashire folk!) and most people not on the big livery yards tend to meet while out competing. Not sure if you have transport? I have made quite a few friends in the collecting ring (especially at Myerscough) or just going out to watch other friends compete. If you do not have any transport and want to get out and about advertising for transport shares is also a good way of making friends, as many people in the area like sharing transport costs or arena hire at some of the big centers. There are also quite a few people who have lessons at our yard even when stabled at their own place, and they tag along on competition days or yard outings as one of the gang, so lessons at a big yard can have a social aspect too!

I hope you are settling into the Lancaster area. Nice here in Spring isn't it?

Tuesday 11th March 2014 North Lancashire Bridleways Society's next meeting should be very interesting:
