I was talking with Mum about what i want to do one i leave 6th form so i have had a look at different courses that are run etc. I am quite interested in one at hartpury, but also am thinking of what to do with Ronnie. I am thinking if i do take this course, I may take him with me.
I was just wondering what peoples experience of taking there horses with them are? Do you regret taking your horse or love it?
Thanks

I kept my mare there for abt a week but she was too stressed so I had to remove her. I had only had her for a few months at the time tho and she was a rescue horse.

I keep mine at Hartpury.

If you have been on an open day you will know that there is the main yard (mixture of DIY and school horses) and the Academy yard (mostly academy riders, ones trying out for the academy or a few who got placed there because the main yard was full).
I have heard mixed feelings with the main yard but I am on the Academy yard and it is amazing. I love it here and it has been the best thing to bring my horse down with me.

Positive points are that you have the use of 2 indoor schools (not the main one unless lessons, shows etc) and the three outdoors..one which is MASSIVE it's like 6 normal ones put together! Have read reviews/opinions on here and they say that students don't get to use them..but unless there is a lesson in there, which is usually in the big indoor anyway, you are free to use them and the jumps whenever you like. I use them everyday and have never had a problem finding one! There are lots of experienced people if you are ever stuck. If you get on the Academy, you get free lessons from the likes of Jeanette Brakewell, Carl Hestor and Nick Burton, weekly. There are also shows about twice a week, for all standards and all diceplines.

Negative points; Hacking is not great! It's mostly roadwork. They are very strict with rules (horses to be tied up when you are in stable, hat and gloves when leading them at any time..even to the field or hand grazing them, 630 starts and horses to be done by 8, stable beds always have to be very well kept. etc) Restricted turn-out, usually 4hours every day or 8hrs every other day in Spring/summer/beg. autumn, and no turn-out when there are big shows or raining.
