Axe I've already pointed out to you on another thread that at 15 years of age it's very unwise of you to post his full name as it could lead to you being identified. Please ask Admin to remove the thread.

i will never compete him properly, so i cant see an issue with me sharing his full name. its just like me sharing my full name. can i ask why it is a bad idea?

It is never a good idea to share your personal details on the Internet unless you have much better privacy settings than is possible on HHO. I would expect every teenager to be aware of online safety. Please talk to your mum about your use of social media. Have you not discussed this at school?

Axe the difference between Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook and HHO is that sharing your personal information on here is permenant and often can come up even when someone searches something arbituary about their own horse. They can then use any information posted on here to find your social media and get closer to you. You also can’t make your page private.

You are very early into horse ownership, you have no idea what you might enter or join in future using his name on insecure sites which will allow people to identify you. It's not a wise thing for a girl of 15 to be identifiable to strangers.

Do your parents know what you're putting on this site?

Even if you do a local unaff dressage comp or show jumping comp (no matter how low level) if the venue post results on their website it will have your name and your horses name listed.

I do understand, I joined this forum when I was younger and had similar conversations about safety with people on here. At the time it felt a lot like people were trying to push me off the forum but I appreciate the advice now in hindsight.

I think point has been made and it does appear you're trying to be careful, just keep it that way - you're very young (even though fifteen feels mature) and there's a lot of big, bad people out there who will use anything they can find. It's also surprising how little you need to find out a lot about people. It's quite scary when you start discovering just how little people who are really determined need. Your age makes you vulnerable for all sorts of reasons that I won't scare you with but are very real.

OP, having just had a catch up on your other threads, I would start by messaging Ouch, who said they knew your horse from a previous home, and get admin to remove this, and your other, threads, because they are revealing an awful lot about you and your horse.

A reminder of the forum terms re under 18s, which the OP will have accepted as part of signing up.

4.9If under the age of 18 a User will need to obtain a parent or guardian's permission before posting anything onto the Forum. You should never reveal personal information about yourself, such as your email address, home address, telephone number, school, etc.

OP, you have already revealed really rather a lot about yourself since you started posting on here. Are you getting your parents or guardians to clear everything you intend to post before you put it on the forum?

Another angle on this - there are much better pages on Facebook which get more traffic and have a higher chance of you finding past owners of your horse. However, you/your parents can’t really post about this horse on those Facebook pages now without any names being linked to these threads - see how everything on the internet builds up into a bigger picture that someone with bad intentions can exploit?

I joined this forum at 15 also, and used my horses full name as a username. I later asked admin to change it to something non-recognisable and did the same with my avatar. You can never take internet privacy too seriously. Unfortunately, historical posts with my horses full name still exist and I can’t remove them.

It’s just wise not to publish those details on a public forum.

Yep, found the horses pedigree and it matched info given. It is worrying (sometimes) how easy to trace back a horse. People can be crazy sometimes and your age makes you vulnerable already. Please be careful, he can easily be traced back to you
you got the wrong horse, ive seen it too, they arent his parents

How come just about everybody uses their real name and life details on Facebook ? I think all this hide your identity advice about your horses name is unfounded. Lots of horses details are public knowledge, I see no reason for all the paranoia on this thread.

You can theoretically more easily control who sees what on FB and the info doesn't usually come up through a google search. Sharing your personal info on fb is also often not safe at all for minors to do, whether horses are involved or not.

The internet at large knowing who currently owns JJ is probably harmless but encouraging a minor to think carefully about what they post is never going to be bad advice.

I'm pretty sure every single one of us on here is identifiable if anyone cba to find out. Especially those who live every moment of their lives on here, in huge detail :)
I imagine Axe has noted people's advice by now.

I would think that the horse will currently be registered to one or both of the OP's parents, or else another adult, as opposed to the OP anyhow.

But entries to events will be in the name of the rider

In the long distant past on this forum I was criticised for my less than spectacular BE record. I'm an adult, I can take it, especially as I know the budget and horses it was achieved with. A child, on the other hand could be seriously disturbed by it.

Personally, because my Facebook is very tightly locked down re: privacy. I also don’t post in public groups.
