Anyone know about Grass warts?

I put a deposit down on a gorgeous colt two months ago. Saw him and he is a right little stunner

Has just come in to be weaned and the breeders have told me he has got some grass warts on his muzzle They had their vet out and he said they should just drop off on their own and not to worry, called my vet and he pretty much said the same over the phone.

So just wanted to check if anyone had any dealings with them? How long they last any problems after they have gone etc?

Im due to pick him up next weekend.

Havent heard the term grass warts but these do sound like juvenile warts which do indeed just fall off with time and done cause any furthe problems.

same as this, never heard this name before but our yearling filly had the juvenile/yearling warts, looked bloody awful, lasted about 6 months with no problems and then just dropped off.

Might be like milk warts, have treated these in teh past brushing on used engine oil, the young man in question didn't bat an eyelid having his muzzle painted with the yukky stuff and it did the trick quickly.

Yes I think they are also called milk warts, I have no experiance of them so wanted to check.

He is 100% what I want so feel a bit sorry for the little chap having warts so young. Is it quite common in foals/weanlings then?

I call them grass warts. My youngsters had them and they just vanish. I wouldn't worry about them

I bought a companion pony ( 9 years old at the time ) and when I went to pick him up he had warts all over his muzzle. It took about 3 months for them all to drop off and have never returned, they were grass warts as well. No need to worry.

My yearling came out in them just before she was sold - severity varies from horse to horse, some just get a couple, or some (like my filly) get their entire face covered! She had them all around her muzzle and her eyes. We just left them, and they have now all disappeared. Luckily her new owner knew they would vanish, so she still went off to her new home (warts and all). I wouldn't mess with them to be honest, I don't like the idea of putting oils/lotions etc on them - it could cause infections/skin irritations and actually make problems in the future. Just leave them be, and they will vanish of their own accord.

Its very common in young horses, just leave well alone and they will disappear in their own good time. I wouldn't put anything on them

Yes - my now 2yr old (that I bred myself) had them as a yearling. Had the vet look at them, he called them grass warts and said they would drop off - which they have. They have not come back since.

Both vets told me not to worry and to leave alone so thats what I will do
Just wanted to see how long other peoples horses had taken to to recover really.

Will be be collecting my warty boy next weekend
