Not a doggy issue I know - however you may know the answer - so....

I have a new cat from rescue. She is very thin and was a stray. I always feed wet food in the morning and biscuits in the evening - however the new cat wont eat them even though she's obviously hungry. I've tried mixing them in with wet food/gravey etc but no luck. She wont even eat cat treats!
Any ideas?

Lol just messing....is it a super market brand....cos they are a little bland and lavourless....some of mine are piccy with these....try a more greasy food....like Iams/Science Plan/Pro-plan not to expensive if u dont have many.

If she is underweight....get her checked by the vet....incase she has problems chewing and check her teeth.....she may not have any...lol

Which biscuit is it you are feeding?

A little tip though... put the biscuits in the microwave for maximum 5 secs.. stand out of microwave after heating for 30seconds to allow to cool then feed, by doing this it releases the oils and yummy smells and makes them much more inviting to eat. The better the quality food the better this method will work as the more meat the kibble/biscuits contain the nicer the smell that will be omitted.

Hope she starts eating soon!

They are Purina Omega cat originial chicken and duck biscuits - all of the other cats I know love them and we use them as dog treats as she cant get enough of them! She had a vet check before I collected her - she lost a litter of kittens a couple of weeks ago and I think that being young, pregnant and a stray her body couldnt cope and so she's thin. She's going to the vet next week to be spayed and they will do another check for me then just to make sure she's ok. She's been wormed and her teeth checked too!

The treats are the wiskers temptations!

I will try the heating method - thank you!

Have you had her teeth checked, they may be way to hard for her to deal with if she has gum disease or dodgy teeth. They do seem to prefer food warmed especially oily stuff like biscuits - it makes them smell so much more appetising....to cats!

cats rely on smell as they dont have very many taste buds this is why soo many people have fussy cats. a brill fodd to try that every fussy cat i know has eaten is royal canin exigent as is designed for the picky eater.but if she is skinny and has lost a litter i would feed her on kitten food for a while as will have all the extras to help her bulk back up. hope this helps

I have biscuits down all day for my cats, and they much them when passing. Whiskers are the definate favourite - and for fussy eaters the Kitten ones are even better (even if it is an adult).

Personally I would feed her what she wants, meat, and give her access to the biscuits in the day to see if she's tempted.

My cats are real grazers and are fed up to three or four times a day - plus the adlib biccy's. (And no, none of them are overweight

Thank you for the help. I'll continue to feed her 2 meat pouches a day and leave out some biscuits to try and tempt her - I'll see if warming works!
I'll get the vet to check her out again on wednesday and look at her teeth.
Thank you - I knew you'd all have some good ideas!
