Hi guys.

I'm considering selling my car and investing in a trailer and 4x4. I don't want to spend loads. The easily maintainable 4x4's are the Freelanders, but they've been slated on horsey websites for towing. Their towing capacity is 2000kg. So I'd need a very light trailer to pull 2 horses (15.1 each).

Does anyone know of a lightweight double trailer? Or a decent 4x4 that won't cost the earth to fill & tax?

Thanks guys

We have a Cheval Liberte trailer which is super! We originally towed with a non 4x4 car (Volvo V50 & then V70) and needed the lightest possible trailer to stay under weight, the only two which were possible were Cheval Liberte or Bateson. We bought a pony trailer which supposedly takes up to a fine 15.2ish http://www.chevaltrailers.co.uk/double-pony.html#top . It fits my two 14.2 ponies in comfortably and one is slightly bigger built than the other.

On the car front we have just yesterday bought a new car as we've discovered we're right on the edge of being overweight whenever we pull both ponies together with the Volvo V70. Mum and Dad both really like Volvo's (we have V50 and V70) so have bought the largest Volvo possible, the XC90 which has a towing capacity of 2250kg and is quite economical to drive at 34 mpg.

Hope some of this helps!
