Ok, so after being told by one saddler that i cannot adjust the tree on my current dressage saddle, i started looking for another saddle. Then got told by another saddler that as long as the tree is a wooden spring tree it can be widened!!

He quoted me £180 to widen the tree, and then flock/fit it to my horse. Is it just me or does this sound expensive? Surely a saddler out there will do it cheaper then that!!
Any ideas/views please? x

I would recommend Peter Husband, he's one of the best and doesn't charge the earth. Plus is very honest, will tell you if it can be done, or not. I had a conversation with him on monday about tree's and he said that all wooden tree's can be adjusted.

Yes ive always heard good things about Peter, hes the one tht told me not to sell and that it can be widened, but he also quoted me £180.

Maybe this is the going rate? I have no idea as ive never had a tree widened before. It just sounded expensive to me ?... x

It does sound a lot but could be cheap compared to others, he charged me £38 on monday, he's 18 miles each way from me and he was there a good hour and a bit checking new horses saddle and flocked it, I felt like asking if he wanted a bit more money!!!

I paid £90 18 months ago when he widened the gullet of a saddle and did a total re-flock, and that included 3 visits in the price, so maybe it is about right? Works out as another £90 to do the tree, which I would guess is not a quick task. He will probably be out to you a good three or four times to check the fit on the horse.

alsxx, yes i spose if you brake it down like that it doesnt seem that much, i think its because he gave me the figure with everything included so it sounded alot.

Teagirl, no i havent heard of her, is she good?
