I occasionally pop up with a post asking for advice on my 3yo colt. Here goes again; the mare in the field next door has come into season (in Jan!!!) and is prostituting herself at the fence line making the poor lad all goggle eyed and very excited indeed…!

(yes I know typical mother blaming the girl...

They are currently separated by a double line of 5ft electric fencing 1.5 m apart, and so far this has worked really well, however as he certainly has the ability to jump it if he wanted to or if he though of it (not the brightest)… it looks like we are going to have to move ASAP as don’t want lad to break out and mare or the gelding she is out with to get hurt.

Yes could get him gelded but certainly don’t want to do that until after having attempted to have him graded (Danish/Norwegian Wb) if it could at all be avoided as he is nicely put together and has the most lovely temperament (stopped flirting when I called and came over for a scratch and some hay..

Does anyone know of any yards, DIY, Full, Studs or training yards that would accept a stallion on livery around Nottingham?

Preferably with some turn out? If so could you please pm me the details and I’ll give them a ring? Any advice gratefully received!

Why not widen your search and look for a yard that specifically prepares colts for grading (eg Edward Evans in Herefordshire). If you find one you probably have just enough time to get him ready for the SHBGB one in mid-March and even if he doesn't grade then at least it would give you some idea of how he compares with other stallions being put forward and whther it is worth keeping him entire for the autumn round of gradings.

Just an idea, but I hope a constructive one :-)
