Hi all, as above

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it would cost to have an analysis of blood taken at a 5 stage vetting?

Thank you!

it can be around the 200 pound mark.

sorry not sure i read it right.. bloods are now taken as a matter of course so will beincluded in the quoted price of your vetting to have them run for any reason then its around the 200 mark

Thank you jhoward.

£200 eek ;). Blood was taken at her vetting and I'd just like it checked for doping. I don't believe she was doped but she's proving, ahem, problematic. So I'd like to rule that out as a possibility as the lady schooling her for me is a bit surprised by how she's going.

Thanks, forewarned is forearmed ;)

What you can do is to get the vet to hold the blood, then if the horse acts crazy or goes lame within a few days of you getting it home, you can have the blood tested.

Be careful though. A friend tried a horse and liked it bought subject to vet. 5* vetting including blood BUT she lived some distance away so used my vet, who is excellent. Horse passed vetting and is bought but it is very strong which it wasn't when she rode it but vet says it looked strong when he vetted it. I reckon the horse was doped when she tried it but as she was not present at the vetting which was several days later he was clear.
As my vet didn't know my friend he suspected nothing so, I suggest that if you can, be present when the vet does the vetting.

Thanks for your reply Foxhunter

I had her vetted the day I tried her, when she was quite ploddy and it was difficult to engage her in strenuous exercise ;)

When I tried her, I saw her ridden in the school and on a fast road, and I rode her myself in the school and round the fields. I knew she was a baby and that her education would take time, patience, work and money but I fell in love with her temperament. I decided that day that I wanted her, but would happily have waited a few days for a vetting. But it turned out that the vet was coming out anyway to vet another horse, so the dealer suggested I phone her to see if she could do mine as well. That was fine, so the vet did a thorough 5 stage, which took nearly 3 hours! Anyway, the gist of this is that I doubt the dealer would've encouraged a 5 stage vetting on that day had she been doped.

Sorry, that was a bit of an essay. I think she's being a bit of a fruit loop because she's a) a baby, b) in a new place and c) she's Welsh ;)

Just want to put my mind at rest. Thanks for your help:)
