Am looking at moving my horse to livery here in the new year as its near the Piccadily line and I was wondering if anyone knew it?

Opinions and comments welcome - good, bad, indifferent?!!

Pms welcome!

Yes i know it, If i where you i wouldnt touch it with a bardge pole, Massively over priced and horrible stuck up people! The working pupils are treated like [****], there are far far nicer places in this area, Trent Park is big and posh looking but scratch the surface and its a whole other story! Also the say they're in london, But techcnicaly there not, its outer london, in between Enfield and Southgate, (and a 10 minute walk from my house)

I can comment on the lessons side of things (not sure if your horse will be on working livery? I know some who are...) and did enquire about livery there myself quite recently (but turnout is very, very limited which isn't that uncommon but wouldn't have suited my purposes). Also know the area a little. PM me if any of the above is of interest...

QR Only been there once for an RC comp - they weren't terribly friendly. Can't comment on lessons or livery as I never went back, but I was not impressed by the rudeness of their staff, and TBH never heard much good said about them in the general horsey gossiping around London (although you always want to take gossip with a pinch of salt, of course).

DunRoamin of course outer London is still London. There are probably some other livery yards you could take a look at near underground stops. Where do you live Frecklesmum?

Thank you for your replys. I live near Arsenal Tube station so was interested in this place as its only six stops straight up the picadilly line.

Looked at some of them like Moat end farm, etc but they are not actually near the tube.

Does anyone have any other suggestions about yards in this area?

It may be worth looking on a website which is dedicated to riding in London www.hoof-in-town.com also have a look at livery yards on the BHS website. I forgot to add earlier that many decades ago I rode at Trent Park for a while and the walk from the underground is not very far at all.

Used to ride there before I started sharing and then got my own horse and while my experience was not as negative as some others have had, I wouldn't consider it for livery.
No criticism but as a big busy riding school, livery is not the first priority and there is limited turnout. Plus it is quite expensive.
I live near Turnpike Lane so it would have been quite convenient.
If you are doing public transport there are options though they usually involve a bus. Look at the overground as well - the line that runs from Finsbury Park up to Hertfordshire which goes through Crews Hill, Cuffley up to Potters bar

This website is really good - you can put in a postcode and it gives you transport options. However I would say test the routes first yourself before dismissing or deciding.

I kept my horse in Mill Hill for a while but moved him up to Herts at the end of the summer. Livery in London tends to be a compromise so i decided to move him further out.
I get a train to Radlett and then a very short bus ride or a 20min walk to the yard.
What are your priorities and must haves in terms of livery?

I'm hoping to go there & train for a year at Trent Park. In what way do you mean treated like ****? I know the place is fairly strict, but would someone please let me know if this is a good yard to go to or not.

I am currently a working pupil here and I can clearly and happily state that we are not treated like rubbish by any means. The staff train on a fair package and the work is not as hard as I experienced at the last livery yard I worked at. They are a BHS approved livery, training yard and riding school. Please bear in mind that being very close to London and surrounded by trent park itself and a golf course, there is not much land that is probably actually theirs for turnout, but there is a clear turnout rota for liveries.

The staff get 4 hours of lessons and 4 hours of lectures a week, and teaching experience at the weekend. The accomodation is good, some on the yard and some within a few minutes walk with 1 meal a day provided. With around 120 horses to look after it can be a bit difficult, but their interest is always at the top of the list before anything else.

The yard itself is very easy to get to and lessons seem reasonably priced for london and it being BHS approved. The liveries there seem content.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to message me, but bear in mind I have only been there 6 months and questions about prices or actual livery packages are best dealt with by calling the yard. Also comments are my opinion and I will not be formally representing the yard with any comment I make to anyone.

Being from southgate originally, I know trent park very well. Was close to moving back down a year ago and enquired about the stables there for livery for my two. They informed me they only offer working livery, not suitable for my two as I'v got an arthritic IDx and a tb exracer, who's not very good with lots of change etc! Also turnout was restricted, which wouldn't have been suitable either! Decided against the move in the end, as my horses getting turnout year round was more important to me! They're currently at home on 5 acres, got 7 stables and an outdoor floodlit menage all for myself! I'm kind of spoilt! I forgot how limited and expensive London/North herts is!! I absolutely love it down there, all my family live in Enfield/Herts, but think my only option is to win the lottery to have them at home down there!!!

lol, we all wish we could ein the lottery... it is difficult and a lot of people dont realise how , as you say limited it is and you dont want your horses to suffer with reduced turnout, but you want to be close to family. I hope you find somewhere that compromises, or continue to make do with what you have...all the best.

Hi,

I'd like to be a student at this Equestrian Centre, I'm French and I've been living in London for two months. I don't know a lot about the BHS.
What kind of job can you do after passing exams there ?
Do you have to pay to be a part of those students ?
Any link with the NVQ ?

Thank you, I'm a bit lost with the British organisation ^^.:o
