Sorry, also in vetinary but thought I might get more of a response here!

My horse developed some patches of flakey skin back in the winter when he was clipped. There were 3 of them about the size of a 10 pence piece and didn't seem to bother him or be itchy. They are under his neck/gullet area. So I kept an eye on them and they didn't get any worse. However, you can still see where these flakey bits were, and the skin seems to have gone really hard and lumpy underneath thet skin. They are no longer flakey and there is hair growing over them. Any ideas what they could be? Sorry if it's not a very good description but I tried taking some pics and you couldn't see it very clearly on the pics.

Hard to say without seeing them, but my first thought was ringworm

second thought was somekind of flat sarcoid, but then you said the hair is growing back, so I have no idea

Dunno- just a bit of dermatitis or eczema or something? Did he get nicked by the clippers or has he had something stuck down a neck rug thats irritated him? - It doesnt look too bad to me, I prob wouldn't worry about it unless it bothering him..

Yes that's what I was thinking and wasn't worried at all, but it's the fact that it's gone really hard and lumpy! Oh well, I think I'll wait and see what happens if no one's got any ideas!!! Thanks for your replies.

They're a bit like my lumpy 3yo's lumps - vet verdict on them was that they were an unusual allergic reaction to fly bites, resulting in scar tissue beneath the skin (having initially been fluid-filled) and they'd either never go, or take years.
