As my fussy boy needs a bit I cannot buy off of the shelf I wondered if there was anyone that could use the cheeks of a pelham that I have and fix a waterford mouthpiece onto it? I met someone at Windsor who had the exact bit I need made for them by Equiport for £110, so this is an option but I just wanted to check if this could be done instead as the Pelham I have is perfect it has the long shanks that I need, but just the wrong mouthpiece.

Thank you!!

To be honest I doubt you could find someone skilled who would be able to do it cheaper. I had a port mouth pelham made for me years ago by Abbey and even then it cost me £80.

I suspect also that the make up of the steel wont allow for a safe fixing of the mouthpiece but it would be worth phoning Abbey and asking if its possible.

Abbey are not cheap, but they do hand make all their own bits, so worth asking, although they do not deal with the Public normally and may tell you to ask via one of their suppliers.

Just seen this post... I got a waterford pelham made form Abbey for my horse. It needed to be 6 and 3/4".
Think it cost me £70, but I got it through a local saddlery, so might be cheaper if you go direct!

As I said, you cannot go direct to Abbey, they ony deal with retailers not private individuals.
