Hi all
I cant believe its April already, anyone horses living out yet? or are yours still in?I am getting tired of this unpredictable weather! lol x

Ours stay out at night but we put haylage down for them and they come in during the day for a few hours as we are pottering to have some individual hay and a feed

Nope, we've got lovely untouched fields that have been rolled but no grass as of yet :(
Feeling so fed up about it, normally we've got too much grass!
Hoping for next month now.

Ours are back out, have been for a week now - it's very dry and warming up/ still rugged so they are fine out - it does look like a moon scene from a grass perspective so they are getting loads of hay out there and coming in for a couple of hours in the day for hard feed.

I actually want a bit of rain as the grass will really need it to grow!

Unfortunately not :( They normally go out when the clocks go forward, but because the cold weather and no grass, they're still in at night :( Hoping for next week now the fields have been fertilized and the night are hopefully getting warmer. ;)

still no grass here either but I can't handle mucking out any more so out they've gone! still feeding twice a day (have upped slightly as younger seems to have dropped off in the last 2 weeks) and putting the hay I would have put in their stable, in their field overnight.

My younger gelding seems to think there's something worth scratching around for tho-he always comes in with muddy lips & whiskers!!

I wish! Grass isn't coming through yet. The top 2 fields have been closed off for ages but nothing yet. I hate to say it but I think we need a bit of rain (!) to help it along as we've had quite a few sunny days here.

Mine have been out a week but they always have access to the yard, field shelter and still have Haylage or hay as I have no grass at all....the field looks worse now after 2 months rest than it did in January. Just waiting for it to warm up so rugs can come off permanently (off in day at moment)...

Unfortunately not. I have one on box rest which means all three have to stay on the yard or they get hysterical and scream for each other. If they were out there's no grass though, only thing that seems to have started growing is dock.

oh and I should add that we're it to rain/snow/be below freezing I would bring them in again. just seeing how it goes day to day really

We have practically no grass but my sister's boys go out as of this weekend but will be getting their hay out in the field - we at least don't ahve to muck out/bedding costs then. My mare will be staying in at night but she's in foal so will keep her routine till foal is old enough to be out all the time otherwise she'd be out as well.

Second night out for mine, albeit each wearing an extra rug - one is underweight and gets stiff in the stable, one is nearly 34 and a new livery has been stressed out on a yard where there was no turn out to speak of. So yes, mine are out for now, not sure what I would do if we had heavy rain as the temperature is not about to improve much for the coming week. Looks like minimal grass but there is plenty of haylage which they seem not to want.
I'm just so tired of mucking out and doing 3 boxes seven days a week for months on end, no respite and no days off.

Just started leaving mine out all the time, he's finally happy to stay out doesn't spend all day at the gate. Walked across field yesterday and grass looks to be just starting to come through a bit.

He'll maybe still come in the odd night as he needs a bit of weight on but don't want to wait for grass to come through properly in case he drops more before then.

One of mine has been out for a couple of hours for the last 2 days - he hasn't been out since November! And I'll be upping the time every time he goes out.

The other one has been going out most days as he only has a bit of a bib clip but otherwise very hairy and he's been used to going out in the daytime.

Roll on warmer nights when they can stay out 24/7. It seems a long time since it last happened!

Our fields are dry enough to t/o 24/7 but no grass yet, so are coming in during the day for haylage and feed.

Not ideal, but at least is saving a little on bedding and means that I am not tied to early starts to muck out anymore.

Like others, normally they would be out grazing 24/7 by now.....

Mine are and always will be if i have a choice out 24/7. The field dosnt look as bad as expected but could be better. Much better for them to be moving around and sunning themselves even if there is no grass, although supplemented with hay.

My employers herd (11 horses) live out all year, however all haylage supplies locally have been exhausted and hay is getting jolly expensive.

I hope we have a nice summer, and the grass grows thick.

Mine live out but, and fatty is now naked 24/7 :D but they havnt yet been turned out in thier spring/summer field with the lack of grass situation :(

Mine are out, they get hay twice a day and come in to be ridden and have their dinners in the afternoons. Actually today was the first day they never ran down to me and didn't want their hay so something is growing. Better of out and even if no grass it saves bedding, mucking out, lots of time and I prefer them out anyway. Roll on summer

I left mine out for the first time last night because the forecast was above freezing. We have no grass though so been tying their haylage nets to the fence. Unfortunately the plan of feeding them a bit later tonight failed epically when they decided they wanted to come in and broke out of the field. Maybe I'll keep stabling for another few weeks til they spring grass starts coming through.

Not a blade of grass to be seen as yet so no point and my shetlands would have major hysterics if I left them out!

Ours are out and rugless now (cobs). They are shedding so madly that rugs make them itchy and tetchy. Whilst I have yet to actually spot a blade of grass, something must be coming through because when I arrived at teatime today, I was amazed to see them all with their heads down and instead of zooming over to the stables with me, they continued to graze initially.....
