Anyone like to see H&H do more for happy hackers?

The best magazine for Happy Hackers is probably British Horse which is published by the British Horse Society. It is published monthly and has loads of information on the latest long distance routes, new bridleways and rights of ways, horse welfare, road safety etc and is completely free of charge with membership of the British Horse Society being sent in the post to members. For those who are interested in new bridleways there is also a magazine called Tracks again published quarterly by The British Horse Society. (Sent to those interested in bridleways).

Thanks for the information Peter, I didn't know about the two you mentioned and I can bet there are people on this forum that didn't either :) I think it is always good to share information like this because it may just help someone be able to enjoy their horse that bit more if they are made aware of things to do and places to go with them. I find most of the information you find in magazines and feed/tack shops are of competitions and shows etc. I welcome any variety in riding with my horse and the more opportunities the better as it does get boring riding the same routes all the time and I find my horses switch off a bit.

Was just going to suggest the same thing myself.

There is a TREC report every issue, and a bridleways report, and riding clubs report. As well as regional pages.

I read mine quite literally cover to cover every issue.

I've looked in the other mags mentioned, but not wanting to be talked down to or suffer from repetitive narrative clearly aimed at a different market, I have saved my money :)

Well said Fuzzy Furry, I totally agree, it is very hard to find coherent equine tourism articles - t'net is not much help on this one. One interesting site is Shropshire Riding, they actually give some routes and I have done some of them & they work. Well done, Shropshire.

Actually, that's a fair point. I wasn't considering those as you don't see them in the shops :o

No, H&H is well in a class of it's own, it's more about your proffessional riders and breeders as well as giving you world news, results and sales etc, it's the only maganzine that is an allrounder (racing, hunting, eventing, showing,SJ, polo etc) at a 'pro level', which is why people like to read and buy it...from happy hackers to professional riders.

If it ain't broke ....don't try to fix it. :D

i don't think HH needs to change, it's got it just right with regards to the groups it is aimed at:) The 'happy hacker' niche is pretty well filled with glossy mags already, what we really need is one of those magazines to change!! most of them, as has already been said, just roll out the same articles over and over and rarely tell anyone past complete novice stage anything that they didn't know already:rolleyes:
