I have just had a phone call about a dead horse in a field. It turns out that the land owner is not the horses owner, this one (6 month old coloured cob) has somehow got out and got stuck in a bog and died :( There are others there but the workman that rang knows nothing about horrses so does not know if they are in good condtion or not.

The field where the dead foal is, is right at the side of a trail (Blackwell trail) and everyone using the trail can see this poor thing in the bog. Now who the hell do I report this to as last time I had dead horses reported the RSPCA said to late nothing we can do and we will not remove them!!! We as a council can not remove as the land is not ours and we are not sure if the land where it is belongs to the same person as on the other side of the trail!!! Grrrr there should be something that someone can do.

Ideas??

Just a thought, what about the BHS Legal Helpline, could they advise who is legally responsible for removing the animal?
I would be inclined to contact WHW about the other ponies rather than the RSPCA as they will at least go out and check on them.

forestfantasy - Thats where it gets more complex as the person that owns the land had no idea there were horses in his field!! The person that ownes the horses has given what, we think to be a fake name.

Will try WHW, see what they think and say.

Thanks HHO

I have spoken to them, there field officer will see if the other horses are doing ok and see what they can do with the dead horse. But not to hold our breaths, as by the sounds of things the horses will prob be moved now that there are people looking, as it's all a bit strange on who owns what. Thats the political way of saying what we said to each other as I know some people get a little techy over some names being used.

They were not sure what could be done with the dead horse as it's on private land but could be used if there is a case from this.

The worst thing is I always get these reported it is not my first one!!! AND they have all been COLOURED COBS, which my very much loved horse is!!! Makes me so mad.
