My old stables have been demolished to make way for new slightly larger ones, and along with the debris went my plywood hay bars. As long as I have to get new versions made, I was thinking of getting a rubber mat and cutting it up - has anyone done this and what size pieces did you need to held a decent size net of hay? Not sure the expensive stable mats are necessary, any ideas for other matting that won't rip easily? TIA

I used Eva mats. Mine were off cuts of come one else's so free but I think about 80cm long. That would be enough for 24 hours worth of hay at least

Oh thank you - I've got some off cut strips I have kept *just in case* (that's my mothers influence!!!) will have to see how many and how long. I tie haynets inside so mine are really just to restrain the haynets, keep feet off them and stop hay being pulled out. One strip might do that TBH
