My horse has had a month off already... Yesterday it looked promising that we might of been able to ride today, only if we stuck to main roads (still snow on ground but main routes starting to clear)... Woke up this morning and BAM it's only snowing like mad again... looks like more time of for the wild one!

So has anyone managed to ride? I'm very jealous if u have.
 
Not yet. We've still got snow on the arena and fields so not riding in there in case it balls up in his feet. Roads are fairly clear but patches of black ice so I'm just not taking the risk. Will just have to have to a very concerted fitness regime once the snow melts to get him ready for the season.
 
yes I am lucky to have a huge indoor school. I rode last night, and had a ball. He was full of himself and had a long long canter all round the school:D
 
No! I haven't ridden for just over 5 weeks now! I would normally be beating myself up about it, but it's just not worth it! There are a lot of people in the same boat.
The ground is like concrete and the roads are like ice rinks, so at the mo it's not even worth trying.
My horse on the other hand is very clean and tidy and loving his new career as a rather spoilt filed ornament :D

I haven't ridden for 5 and half weeks now. My horse lives out and is enjoying his feral state, doing nothing but eat and hang out with his mates. We had more snow this morning, doesn't look like it's ever going to go away.
 
Yes, we have ridden practically every day...sorry! We are only using the main roads through the villages - which are fine. The tracks are all icy and we do recce the routes with the 4x4 first. Not riding today as it's pouring with rain.
 
Nope. But partially because I'm not allowed back on 'till February :cool:

D1 has ridden loan horse about ten times since we've had her, with exams and then bad weather. Ah well. Good bonding time :D

Dizz is being, on the whole, very soft with me. Letting me snuggle up under her rug and wrapping her neck around my body :) :) :) :D
 
i was beginning to think i was the only one who couldn't ride, loads of my fb friends seem to be riding in the snow somehow. There's a big show starting wednesday and i'm selfishly hoping they cancel so i wont be sat at home wishing i was there
 
I haven't ridden for a week. We have had a little snow/mainly ice and its raining today but I am aiming to go out! I really can't imagine what it would feel like not to ride for 5 weeks! I feel awful for you
 
Nope. Haven't had a lesson in 2 weeks and haven't ridden friends horse for at least twice that as ground has just been too hard :(

Hoping we get the thaw everyone keeps talking about. Can't wait to get back on board although I suspect a long soak in the bath will be required after :rolleyes: :D
 
I've not ridden for about 4-5 weeks and we'e not looking like being able to any time soon. We have off road riding and it's frozen solid and very rutted, the drive (which is a mile long so good for hacking) is sheet ice after it had to be scraped to get the cars down it. Currently sat looking at huge flakes of snow falling out of the sky and wondering why I didn't take up an easier, more relaxing indoor hobby like sword swallowing or fire eating :D! Pony may come out of retirement around March time at this rate, tortoises seem like a good idea - don't you just shut them in the airing cupboard over winter!! :D
 
I've ridden in our paddock. It's mostly untouched snow. There's no way I'd be able to leave mine unridden for so long otherwise he would have had a holiday :(

I'm hoping to lead rope to the end of the road today and ride back. He hasn't left our yard in 2 weeks. Fingers crossed!
 
Rode on Christmas Eve for about ten minutes on the Byway next to our field - my OH took some lovely pics in PG - but it was so long since I'd ridden that I could feel it in my legs the next day! Now it's thawing, and everything is slushy, it's also raining and blowing a gale!
 
I've been out nearly every day on salted roads and some off road riding, but my lad is so sure footed, he hasn't slipped once. I really feel for those elsewhere where there is more snow than here. Not long now and thaw will set in.
 
I haven't ridden my two because they are field kept and I can't be doing with the hassle - does them no harm to have time off, and means I can happily leave them unclipped and rugged up. I have however been riding the racehorses - we haven't really stopped for anything with them - there is always some means of getting them exercised and out - the gallops men on epsom downs have worked 24hrs a day some days to keep the gallops snow and ice free though - our access routes to the downs are limited and we are often having to ride the horses down on the main road.
 
I actually managed a wee trot in the outdoor school today I was VERY happy. And the Mr. behaved, even better. Now just gotta wait for it to fully thaw :/
 
Haven't taken the baby out for the last six weeks. And won't be either, until it thaws, the idea of an excited 4 year old after six weeks off is not my idea of fun with the ice we currently have.
Ginger ninja is a loon anyways, so she isn't going out for much the same reason!
 
I've been riding indoors for about a month and was getting bored of it. I took him down the road for the first time in about 4 weeks yesterday and it was fine, no ice at all! :) However, it's now pouring down so looks like i'm back inside today. Luckily Father Christmas brought us some jumps so i guess we'll be making use of them! :)
 
It is starting to thaw here so I am hoping to get back on for the first time since the snow came at the end of november. Writing this is probably tempting fate as no doubt she'll pull a shoe or something and it won't happen! Its so long since I've ridden and so many xmas choccies scoffed it won't be a pretty sight! Think of bags of lard bouncing around - wobble wobble. Poor horse! :D
 
I'm lucky in that the yard where I keep my horses has a small indoor school so I've been riding in there lots. Horses schooling is getting quite good as a result! Though I do miss hacking and jumping (school is a bit small to jump in), so if the snow doesn't thaw soon I may look at hiring a local larger indoor so we can have a bit of fun doing some jumping and bigger canters around.
 
Yes, Had a bout a week off, since then going down to the beach everyday as its the only place you can ride safely, not much snow here but ground frozen solid.
 
YES!!!!

First time out today since the first snow in November!

Had a lovely hack out, the roads not too bad at all, and the snow is about gone on the verges, so were able to go on those when a little bit dodgy......

Horses were exhuberant and lively!

Hardly at all, we can go up on the long grass round the wood behind the house but have only walked round it once a week since the beginning of Dec... tried a little trot on Christmas morning and brat of a mare (19 year old Welsh D x Arab) pinged into canter, three bucks and I hit the deck. At least it was soft snow! Madam needs a trot up the road but presently we can't get them out onto the lane. It's thawing a bit tonight so will be flooded, then mud again before long.
