Anyone mixed syringe wormer with something tastier?

My horse is trained to like syringes - I have given her apple sauce in them so many times that she just puts them in her mouth herself. Normally this works great for one syringe of something less nice - give two of apple sauce and then the wormer and she's fine. I need to give her two wormer syringes this time (double dose of pyrantel) so I wondered about mixing the wormer with apple sauce and spreading it over a few more syringes rather than trying to give her two with the wormer in succession. I've tried wormer and it doesn't have much taste at all to humans.... Anyone tried anything similar?

Or you could give her the two wormers as is and then give her another syringe of apple sauce as a treat and to get the wormer taste out of her mouth.

Sorry... what... you’ve tried wormer??? WTF dude ?

When I accidentally got Equest in my mouth it was not pleasant. I also was worried I might die of a moxidectin overdose since I had no idea how much the little brat managed to spit into my mouth (my Google history for that day is not pleasant) .... BUT to your question, different wormers are different unpleasant. Mine will eat all but Equest in their dinners, if needed. One of mine hated hating wormers in the syringe until he got a lung infection after which he got a daily shot of Airways in a syringe. This must be pure sugar since he now licks his lips and is delighted to see any syringe, so worming became easy. This tells me they are easy enough to teach with a nice sugary product! Applesauce sounds good, or just buy a bottle of Airways lol!

I can't syringe mine so I dump it in his feed - did a pramox the other day and before I went down the yard I got a little jam jar, put a big tablespoon of treacle in and filled it with warm water. I dumped the pramox in the chaff and then poured the treacle water over. He just about ate it, although he knew I was trying to poison him (you should have seen his face), so he made hand feed the last quarter to him. He wouldn't have ate it at all if it didn't have the tasty stuff in, I don't think.

Maybe doing that might be easier for you than battling the second syringe?

One of mine gets really worked up by even the sight of a syringe - no idea what's happened to him to get to that state - but I usually mix into copra and that goes down ok

I once used my teeth to remove the cap off a syringe of Equest and managed to get some in my mouth - it's vile!!

Hm, that's an interesting thought, maybe I could just do the mix with apple sauce and add to her feed. I might try a little bit as an experiment first....
I really do not understand why it's not possible to make wormers that taste nice. Surely a strong mint flavour would make everything easier for almost everyone? And don't get me started on cat wormer.....

I put the syringe in the fridge for 48 hours. The cold wormer seems to be more acceptable. I have to hold his head up till he swallows.

He's too clever for apple sauce syringe decoys - he can smell the difference.

If that doesn't work, I can mix it with baby food and have a 50% chance of success.

Success! I experimented last night with a little bit of wormer mixed with apple sauce. She had it as a side to her main. Ate it all. Tonight I did the same with one tube - kept is as a side rather than mixed through the feed - and she ate it all, so I did the same with the second tube. Inadvertently tasted it again when she gave me a kiss complete with wormer lipstick - tasted quite good!
Wondering if I can use this for the others now too....
