I'm thinking of moving there for 6-12 months to learn German and want to take my horse with me. I've only just started to look into this so all advice appreciated.

I need to find an area with a good equestrian centre and a local language school that's close enough to Berlin so that I can still do plenty sightseeing.

I've been checking online and found this place which looks lovely and seems fairly close to the city. Anyone know it ? Any other suggestions ?

I'll be going over this Summer to check places out with a view to moving either this Autumn or next Spring.

Also, any other tips and local info would be very helpful.

Thanks for reading.

Can't help you I'm afraid horse wise, but have a fabulous time. My mother is from Berlin and I absolutely love the city!

Can I come ? Again not much use from the horse point of view but I love the city I have been twice and am in love with the place. Would move tomorrow if my taking my horse was as easy as booking her a seat with ryan air (even with the extra leg room i reckon she would struggle, plus she's french so I reckon she would struggle to fit in). Seriously jealous though! Do it!

I have relatives in Potsdam, and was having a nosey to see what's around---there seem to be quite a few establishments ranging from serious training yards to "clubs" that run more like a co-operative sort of DIY place (not sure how to explain it).

The place you've found is pretty damn central, right beside a S-Bahn (commuter rail) station. You'd be downtown very fast. I don't know anything about the place itself, but from the site, I'm guessing the facilities are excellent, the turnout non-existent, and the price through the roof (it's about 550--600 Euros/month for full livery, depending on which of the two yards you go with)!

After posting I realised the yard I put the link up to didn't have any turnout so probably won't be top of my list.

I don't mind the expense too much as I'm currently paying London prices so I could actually save a bit of cash even at the very central yard !

I found out today that I can continue to do some work for my current employer remotely when I'm in Berlin so I'll have some employment of sorts but will have to hope for favourable exchange rates (and maybe the odd waitressing job) when the time comes.

It's all just the beginnings of an idea at the moment but last time I had an idea like this one I ended up backpacking around the world for a year so hopefully this plan will come together too.

I found a few other websites but I don't think I'm looking properly so please post links to absolutely anything you think might be useful. Lots of research to do !

Thanks
