Anyone on here have sheep?

I want to graze sheep on my land. I have a holding license now, but need to know if electric fence (strands off) is effective at keeping in sheep.

I only want two or three sheep, but am worried about keeping them in the different paddocks as they are only electric fenced.

You need sheep netting ... it is electrified but kind of roll out stuff ... a bit like the orange netting size you see round road works

Here you are ......

Did you see my link in my last post?

Mmmm yes I think you will find they will push through and under the horse stuff (or eat all the bits and bobs and connections possibly

We have 7 lambs and have had them a week now, they had been bottle feed and never been outside so they spend the first few days in the field shelter with regular feed's to keep them happy, but now they have a taste for the grass there well away we still feed them a handful twice a day to keep them friendly, i have to say we have stock fencing all the way around apart from on one side and we put up low horse fencing and have electrified it and they've been shocked a few times and now stay well away, that’s not to say they won't as i know the only two ambitions in life are to escape and die!! but for now it's keeping them in!.

i had 2 sheep last year they did make my fields look loads better but they were a total pain in the neck to keep in. they even climbing a 12 ft hedge that was nearly virtical

We used to have sheep and when we refenced the fields we did it with high tensile steel strained 4 strand eletric fence powered by a unit that they use for elephants. No one told the sheep and my welsh woolie jumpers sussed that if they jumped at it from gallop they got through it in mid air so no shock. you can keep them in with eletric, though it is easyer with lowland breeds. You will need strained wire though not tape or rope.

Good luck

450 ewes plus lambs, so far very few escaped, but have sheep netting to keep in, if don't lke that try 5 lines of smooth wire on posts not too far apart but it must be tight.

The best tip for sorting out problem animals not respecting Electric fencing, attach a bait to the fence so they investigate it with their sensitive nose and tongue. Bit of molasses or treacle on the wire works every time a coconut, even for those that take a running jump.

I've borrowed 12 fat rams and they don't try and escape. They are currently kept in by 3 strands of wire electric fence powered off a mains charger, designed for deer & wolves (the one below the elephant power....)

They are very good, but have lots of food, and are very content when not butting each other.

The aren't athletic jumpers and are now nearly all addicted to polos....
