I have just had a look at the Bateson Deauville on their website...they look very nice anyone have any opinion's on them and Bateson in general?
Thanks :)

I have a deauville. We went for it because it was light weight, had a huge window at the front to check the horses and the horses got off passenger side which the more weighty Ifor didn't offer at the time (they do now and the huge window!). We bought new straight from Bateson direct and got a nice little discount too. It has always towed nicely and apart from the wheel needing replaced due to a nail we've had no other probs in the 2 years we've had it.

I have one too - its not that lightweight! its around 975kg if my memory serves me right so not much lighter than an IW. I went for mine 2 years ago because of the following:

1. unloading-while I understand the argument, the ramp is on the right hand side, IW argue you would be unloading onto the road, I prefer to have the option!
2. Big window down the front - IW now have that
3. Very "light" inside
4. More modern suspension. Horses that wouldn't travel in an IW will in my Bateson.

IW has caught up a lot but if looking at a new one with the updates, I would take into consideration that an awful lot of forum users seem to have had problems with it!

Only thing I would change - wish I had chosen the one with the external tack locker. 1. it means loading tack after loading my horse and removing before unloading and 2. I stopped doing it when I realised just how close my saddles were to Sir's jaws!

I had a Deauville for 4 years & it was a fantastic trailer. It towed well, horses loaded easily as it was light, airy & welcoming. It's ulw is a low 860kg, so very light but can carry 1440kg of horses (max weight 2300kg) & up to 17h tall. It has a useful double saddle rack at the front & the ramp is on the nearside so easy to offload onto the pavement in an emergency. (IWs normally have their ramp on the other side). They retain their value very well also.

I would still have it now but as I now have 2 horses & stay away at shows I needed a lorry.

I had an Ascot sold it to get lorry yep highly recomend them would be looking at one if I needed a horse trailer again ,sometimes borrow friends IW 510 nice to hand the numb rattley thing back im sure its strong and safe just nowhere near as nice to tow or use as the ascot was...

As WeeBrown. Bought my Deauville brand new 8 months ago and got a good discount. It's light, airy, easy to tow, easy to remove the partitions. Good value for money I think. Only downside is I went to collect my 2nd rescue Shetland today, from a local rescue Trust and the 2 hydraulic thingies that raise the main ramp "flap" up and down had seized solid. Didn't realise so I gave some extra hard jerks to get the poxy flap down and 1 hydraulic thing sheared straight off at the top bolt, the other one bent in the middle and now won't ever work again. It's still under guarantee and only carried horses 5 times! Makes you wonder why manufacturers cut corners on essentially excellent products to save a few pence. Still and all, love the Deauville!
