Hi everyone,

Friend has asked for some Sylvia Loch Books/DVDs for Christmas - I've never read her so would appreciate opinions on how useful these might be (she's a reasonably competent, but certainly not advanced, rider)

Thanks!!

I saw her ride quite a few years and she was giving a lecture and she was amazing - she really inspired me to start dressage - her horse looked so at ease with her and she used such little effort to get the movements - brilliant!

Thank you. I did see one of her videos years ago and I know I liked her style. I'm a "classicist" by inclination and enjoyed the fact that she rode in the true, classic style - soft seat, horse in true self-carriage etc. - but can't picture how useful it would be for a particular level. Not sure whether DVD or book would be best? May have to treat myself to find out

I've been looking at some of her books but not got around to buying any yet (have just taken delivery of a Philipe Karl book though

. I think they would be interesting. Is your friend looking for more of a "how to" sort of book? Maybe look at some Heather Moffett stuff instead?

When I was younger I was given a video of hers called "Staying On" and loved it, it was really interesting and although I'm still pretty useless, in theory I'm pretty good! My sister has read a few books by her, and found them interesting and pretty useful with her pony's dressage- it doesn't take a one size fits all approach so there were some handy tips for a hot, buzzy yet lazy mare.

She's more of an "improver" really - doesn't compete at the moment but would like to try dressage (which I'm happy to encourag!).

Sylvia Loch is doing Demos at YHL this year if you get a chance to go OP.

Thanks - I might send friend up there to see if she is happy with her methods/style etc!
