I do have lessons every other week, but I wanted something to watch/read - (although DVD prob better) with a few exercises that I can go off and do on my own with my girl when I school after work in the evenings.

Although I have been riding for over 15 years, I guess I would still class myself as a novice in the dressage stakes, therefore something easy to follow would be good.

Have you looked on Ebay??

This is by Carl Hester, but still may be of interest:

Bummer at work at mo and they dont allow us access to ebay (why they then go and allow us access to forum related sites I dont know - but I saying nothing). I do like Carl Hester, will have a look when I get in, thanks amymay.

It gets so tedious in the menage on your own of an evening in the rain, been stalking others posts on here to get some tips, exercises etc. as well

I'd have a look at all of the books Charles de Kunffy has written, particularly the Athletic Development of the Dressage Horses for actual exercises to practice.

Not quite classical but classically based I got 'Ride from the Heart' by Jenny Rolfe for Christmas and its excellent. Has lots of helpful exercises and diagrams but I have found its really changed how I think about my riding and behaviour - the changes in my mare are amazing...

Also if you are riding on your own I can recommend Solo Schooling by Wendy Jago - again exercises but also helps you to think about how and why you are doing things and how to 'be your own coach'.

Like you I've been riding for years, but am hoping to develop a bit and have taken an interest in the 'classical' idea.

I got Anne Wilson's book 'Riding Revelations' for Christmas and am loving it. Everything is explained very simply which is great for someone like me. To be honest, if you'd asked me what the seat aids were for a walk trot transition before reading this book I'd have given you a blank look, but it explains everything.
