I asked this on another thread, but I thought I'd start a new one as people are more likely to see it.

Does anyone in the North remember Dorothy Johnson? Or know if she's still around? I knew her in the early 1970s when I was a teenager (she seemed very old to me  She was probably much younger than I am now).

She did a tv series about riding in the 1960s and lived in Aughton in Lancashire.

I couldn't afford lessons from her, but my friend and I used to watch her lessons and regularly helped her set up an indoor arena for competitions & demonstrations she used to organise. She was very sweet to us.

Yes! Mrs J remember her very well. She taught the lady who owned the yard where I kept my first pony at livery (early 90's ish?) said rider was working on canter and horse jumped out of arena, her response was circle him and jump him back in! She was brilliant.

Whereabouts was that?

Just replied on your other thread but yes I remember her. She came to teach someone at the riding school I went to, Bury/Rochdale area. I remember her being very kind to any of us pony mad kids she spoke to.

Thanks. I wonder did she leave the Aughton area? She could have travelled to teach at Bury, it's not all that far.

She was a very highly regarded & highly qualified horsewoman, but like you say, very kind to us "youngsters" ;)
