Vaguely considering renting mine out as won't be using it for next 6 months, Ifor 505, perfect condition, and have just finished it's 'end of season' clean.

Does anyone rent out theirs? if so for how much? Hw does your insurance work? I would prob only rent it out to someone I know well, but dint know how much to ask.

Nope. Lent it to someone I know, now the partition is trashed. And they don't know how it got like that.

I wouldn't lend it or hire it now, too risky and expensive when I ahve to end up having things fixed.

If you are going to take payment for the lending (ie not just lending to a friend for free) you need the appropriate insurance and the correct license. Both of these are quite expensive so it is not worth doing unless you are going to treat it like a proper business and rent it out for at least £500 over a monthly period.

I would also recommend comprehensive liability and corporate insurance.

Also make sure you take payment up front with a proper contract in place. I would also recommend putting a tracker in if you want to limit the distance they can take it and make sure there is adequate coverage to pay your insurance excess written into the contract (I would recommend this as there is nothing quite so irritating as finding it has been damaged in some way hundreds of miles away)

Happy to help you if you do want to go ahead and do this as I have a 3.5tn lorry that I rent out when I'm not using it so have gone through all the correct steps etc.

Never! Stopped giving lifts to people ages ago as well....horse went barmy...won't even share the other partition due to ungratefulness of some people.

If that makes me selfish then so be it. It was me and OH who splashed out the £3,500 to buy it in the first place....

:p

Nope!!! When I rang my insurance company to check about insurance when a friend wanted to borrow my trailer, they said to me they wouldnt be insured to tow it and as it stands my car is registered on my trailer insurance as being legally the only vehicle allowed to tow my trailer - and its too much hassle putting a friend on my car insurance so they can drive my car and tow my trailer ;)
I would offer to take someone in my trailer to a local place - if they paid my petrol costs but wouldnt lend my trailer out at all - I paid too much money for something so expensive to be lent out and risk being damaged.

No I wouldn't hire mine out.

I would however let my sister in law borrow it as she has let me borrow hers and that seems fair. I know she would be insured and I assume she would send it back in a good clean condition as I did hers.
