I have a pair of zip up long leather boots, only been on 3 times but I've had them a while so unlikely manufacturers would cover it, but I put them on last weekend, caught my sock in the zip and burst it. anyone got any suggestions on repair options, saddlers won't/can't do it and I thought it might be beyond the local Timpsons also what sort of price has it cost as I bought them in a sale and they are Dublins, not the cheaper ones but if it was going to cost a fortune I'd probably just replace rather than repair them. Ta!

That happened to me last year on my mountain high riders. To much mud and grit in the zips and they both went. I took them to cobblers and they quoted me £3 and inch. So it would have been around £39 per zip which i werent going to pay so i got new ones!

Thanks Folks, I only paid £40 for them so I'm not desperately keen to pay that out again for a zip, they are lovely boots but don't suit me 100% so I'll prob just stick them on Ebay and see if anyone wants a bargain to replace the zips on!

same happened to me (same boots) cost £32 from Timpsons the cobblers... said it would take a month tho! so was quite suprised to get them back only 2 wks later... now the other boot is going tho...

My mountain horse boots had a broken zip. I took them to a place that made jockey boots and the quoted me £25 a zip. Didn't bother getting them repaired.

The handle on my zip on my Sportives just broke after 8 months!! I am peed off to say the least! No way I am paying to have the zip fixed as for 140 they should nto have broken!

Just stick them on ebay!Did u get them from ECW by any chance?? I got a pair of dublins - ordered Wide but got Regular with W written over the R!! Sold them on Ebay for £90!

My local shoe repair place did it for £15 quid, as they didn't replace the zip - just re-ran it. He said he wouldn't fancy doing it again though!!

Yeah! They did come from ECW, one was missing the insole but I wasn't too bothered about that although they are a wee bit of a weird fit, huge on the calf but skinny on the ankle - should just have got them on Ebay but I did kind of like them and they were pretty affordable! Never mind! Watch out for them on Ebay!

best place for this type of work is saddlers (wierd your's not wanting to do this type of work), but i would try an search out any better master saddlers in your area
or find good local cobbler
I recently got my old boots completely resoled and healed at local cobblers £20 - champion price

Had mine replaced once (Do both boots at the same time, even if one doesn't need doing, it always goes as soon as you've got the other back!), cost me £20 for the pair!!
Am getting them done again after xmas for eventing again, different person, but will be about £25-30 for the pair!!!
Its not worth it though if there cheap boots!

Equitector repaired mine for £12.50 per boot, and I only thought of contacting them after trying lots of other avenues unsucessfully, so worth ringing the manufacturer for advice.

The zips in my Mountain Horse Sporting riders had to replaced too. A lot of the boots mentioned on this thread seem to be Mountain Horse...

my friend burst the zip on her (very expensive) long boots, so was kinda keen to fix them! she sent them away to a repair place and said they were brilliant, really quick and not too expensive, but i can't remember the name of the place... sorry, not too helpful!

Zip in my Mountain Horse High Riders broke; local cobbler put new zip in for about £15, wasn't strong enough and broke within a day or so

- by this time I was fuming so Timpsons sent it back again, turned out they had just tried to re-link it the first time but have now put in a great big strong zip which is holding so far.
Anyway! was bit of a saga as you can tell but am not giving up on £140 boots easily!
Mind you I have now bought a pair of jod boots & some half chaps.
