By new format, do you mean since the changes a couple of years ago, or under the Covid-19 changes?

I have a couple of students who have done both, I will ask them if they are on here.
If you have specific questions, it might be worth asking them in case anyone would prefer to answer via PM?

Thanks - new format as in the changes from a few years ago. I suppose mostly I wanted to know if there was anything you felt you'd needed more study on/which part of the assessment was most difficult for you - the syllabus is vast compared to stage 2!!

The biggest difference I found between stage 2 and 3 is that for stage 3 they dont want a textbook answer. They like you to have a broader knowledge and not a one size fits all approach. Obviously there are some things that are either right or wrong (i.e. anatomy and correctly fitting a double bridle) but management stuff they like you to demonstrate better knowledge than purely textbook answers.

I agree with emilylou. I actually really enjoyed my stage 3 care as I found it was more of a discussion then the textbook says this.. and you could draw upon your own experiences.

What do you want to know?

For the care - it's a step up from the Stage 2 and was the most intense four hours I've done exams wise so far. Loved it, but they're looking for experience over knowledge imho. Everything I said was backed up with both, you can't book learn your way through this one. The flat exam is lovely but again feel and experience over what you think they want to hear.

I'm not doing the jump part (wahey for flat only routes!) but I have watched it and seen people pass/fail. All about your lower leg and the quality of the canter. Without that you're stuffed.

It's 2 hours in the covid one to one format but that's probably going to make it worse ?

Aah shit, over and above the worming module you have to do?

The module online is a bit of a piss take and no one pays any attention, the questions at the end are not hard. Then suddenly mid exam you get asked stuff - it threw all of us, but thankfully mine weren't too bad. Why is larvae infestation bad, worm burdens etc, but I heard someone else being grilled over different times of year, what you'd worm for etc.

Re conformation. Make sure you know what you're talking about! Dont dare mention hoof pastern axis unless you know what it actually is, how it relates to that horse and further up the leg. They'll pounce on you otherwise :)
