I was looking through horses for sale ads recently, and a cob…very hairy! (Gorgeous)….had 1 pic of his feet - i did a double take as i was taking-in what looks to be 2 frogs growing on 1 hoof!
Evidently with this particular hoof, its now been trimmed, as horse is for sale, but the double frog has been left.
Anyone seen this before? How does it develop?
It looks like, what should be the back crevice of the original frog is where another frog is growing, to support the foot further back. I am wondering how this happens? Over- growth of foot to the point that the front wall length tips hoof so far back that the frog adjusts by growing more frog tissue out of itself to support the heels more? What do you think?
Posting this for hoof interest only, as ive never seen a double frog before and find it fascinating how the hoof compensates growth to maintain balance, and thought others hoof enthusiasts might find it interesting.
