Anyone shed any light on this?

RIght I'm pretty cross and these eejits have had a severe ticking off passed down from me but basically my ex's sons dog died yesterday. She was a 10yr old JRT that they like tossers allowed to mate with their young bedlington...said they didnt know mating had occured, was too late to abort! Ex said he knew nothing about it or would have insisted to them they took her in for spaying/abortion. First he heard was yesterdays phone call from ex wife...the bitch has died. She wasn't quite right (not due to whelp although I dont know how far along she was) Took her to the vet and according to ex wife the vet said she was 'just tired'!!! :confused: Took her home and put her in her basket, went out to the shops for an hour, came home and the bitch was dead. Took her back to vets and was offered a postmortem but didnt get one done...I would have bloody insisted on one for nothing if the vet really did say the bitch was 'just tired'!
So any ideas on what could have caused such sudden death? My first thought was pyo but surely to god the vet would have picked that up two hours before death?!
RIP Marjorie. Not very nice for the exs son to have to come to terms with, especially as it was so avoidable....cross cross cross :( :mad:
 
My only idea would have been pyometra too. But you would hope a vet would pick it up. Phantom pregnancy perhaps - something like that. Could be that the pregnancy had just put too much strain on her heart.

I would hae demanded a PM though. Surely a vet would be more concerned about a pregnant bitch of that age???
 
That is just so sad. Poor wee Marjorie. 10 isn't terribly old for a JRT but certainly too old to breed from. You would think they would be asking some questions of the vet and most certainly be asking for a PM. Unusual for a 'tired' dog to just die.
 
Beau had a pyo some years ago which wasn't picked up by the vet (it was one of the "young" vets). I kept insisting it was a pyo and he eventually (nearly too late) agreed, so it is possible they didn't pick it up in my experience.

Thats very interesting....and very suprising/sad too. If it was my dog I would have immediately suspected pyo and insisted to the vet that my dog was not just tired, but I doubt they have even heard of pyo :rolleyes: :(
 
What a shame, RIP Marjorie. Certainly sounds a strange comment for a vet to make, was he aware she was in whelp? Even a closed pyo would have shown some symptoms (temp etc) so shocking if he missed this. Possibly just a heart attack, although agree 10 isn't very old for a JRT. Ironic really because in a lot of ways it is how most of us would like our dogs to go, but not so suddenly.:(
 
Did they actually take her to the vet ? sound bit suspicious to me, maybe they just came home and found her dead and are covering their backsides
