I want start looking to locate French bred Percherons but not sure where to start.

I will contact the breed society over there and as if they can put me intouch with studs but I'm worried as i don't speak a word of French or at least very little.

Was there anyone up to the challenge of helping me to locate some mares????

Yep - give me a shout if you wish, if my instructor, club , vet or farrier don't know, they'll know somebody who does (breed Percherons that is) <g>.

Xebec, Any help would be great. do you know of any web sites where they would be likely to be advertised???

No probs, to kick off there are these sites:-

http://www.chevalannonce.com/consult_chevaux.php
http://www.cavalissimo.com/index.php?
http://www.acheval.net/recherche.asp?tv=1&rechercher=rechercher

For the 'departments' of France (like counties), there's a map here - http://www.gauloise.com/carte-departements-france.html and that will give you an idea of where they're located.

and in the 'race' box enter Percheron.

There is the Haras Nationaux (the national stud book), but it takes some negotiating and I'm 3/4 of a bottle of wine in - so I'll send more info tomorrow. Failing that, if you Google 'elevage' (breeding) and 'percheron' that should throw up some breeders.

Shout (or PM) if you need more footwork doing :)
