... Trying to hold off as long as possible but as Popeye says "I cant stands it no mores" :p Hes not beastly hairy but hairy enough that hes getting sweaty now ... Just dont want to ruin his summer coat for next year  so anyone started yet?

I'm clipping tomorrow morning....can't cope with the hair any more, plus he's Autumn Hunting now, so it's taking an age to get him bathed and dry before we go, and then an age to cool him off afterwards....haircut time....he will be done once a month until March

:-( I hate clipping!!

Omg I tried to clip my new boy today. He went bonkers. Backing into the wall and rearing. I was surprised as he is such a laid back chap and when I viewed him he had obviously been clipped this year and his legs had been clipped rather recently. The girl who rode him for me also said that his owner would have clipped him so she presumed he was fine.

Am getting the vet out next week to give him his next vaccs so i'll need to get him sedated and try again.

I'd normally clip for the first time in a couple of weeks at the end of September, but I'm hoping to wait a bit longer this year. He gets very hairy, but as he's having his hocks injected on Monday, he won't be in heavy work any time soon.

I guess it depends on when he turns into a hairy mammoth. Clippers are serviced, blades are sharpened, rugs are ready to get picked up from the cleaners, so I'm ready for whatever.

My other boy is a monkey to clip so I'm avoiding that subject altogether until absolutely necessary ...... !

Ginger cob could do with clipping now, he is getting so sweaty when ridden even for 20 minutes. However the clippers blew up the week before last when he was hogged, so it's bad times at the moment!

oh yes it is the clipping time! bring it on. love it. machines serviced and PAT tested. insurance in place. ete. bring it on. a bib at this time of year is like farting in the wind. clip it off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clip when you need to. There's no point holding off "because you might be the only one doing it already" - you do it for human convenience, so do it now if you want to!!

Plus, loads at one yard I ride at have been done :)

My lot were done this week... as someone else said, they're cubbing now so it's been horrible having to spend hours drying off and cooling down... now they're all naked it's taking me minutes!

Lordy, I never usually clip this early but one of mine is looking like she needs done.
Luckily the TB has a v fine coat so wont need done, although he is 3 yrs old and never been done so might just do a bib on him for the experience

Not sure why clipping now would damage next year's coat. Usual theory is don't clip after 1 January. Never heard to too early message before..

Clip if YOUR horse needs it - don't worry about others!! Also, pick a clip that works for you, bib or full and anything inbetween ... again ignore what others think. lol
I doubt Meg will get clipped, I don't usually work her in the winter (money saving on farrier, and Iam a fair weather person!!) but with both kids now at school, I might postpone her holiday by a few weeks to enjoy some extra rides and therefore take something off her front. She is a good girl and doesn't mind being 'shaved'!

Everyone at our yard doesnt clip till the end of Oct so there always like oh you shouldnt clip this early but there horses dont do much so fair enough for them but its much handier for me to clip everything off ... and i really like clipping :o ... oh well the blades shall be sharpened this week and hair will fly :D
