Anyone still living out?

Yep - out 24/7. Have rugged up the boys though as they do tend to shiver a bit in the wet and their field is very exposed. They are arabs so fairly thin skinned. They'll live out all winter though may come in during the day if it's very wet to give their feet a chance to dry out on solid ground! They're much much happier out than in. The mud doesn't seem to bother them one bit - it's me who suffers more!

My 2 only come in when it has been consant rain for 24hours so they can dry off. I put a rug on them both last night but we have a cold wind just now. However once the wind and rain has dropped the rug will be comming off my ID. My standardbred is a shiverer!

My problem is that if and when we have deep snow there going to have to stay out as my standardbred box walks if she is in the stable for 12hours+. So she will be in a state if she is stuck in for a day or more. I havent quite figured out how to get around this yet!

Still out and literally just put a rug on for the first time last night cos he's caught a cold off a new horse. He lives out 24/7 but will be rugged because his coat is thin being a tb x wb x Arab!

Mine are all out unrugged except for my 25 yo who has a rug to help her keep the weight on. Am going to try to hold out until mid-October and then rug & clip/rug those that need it.

All at my yard are still out, all unrugged apart from my pony but he only has his Boett on and had a turnout on a few days when that got too wet to wear. He wont get rugged in anything else till he gets clipped which probably wont be till end of October.

All still out, one precious one rugged as he has been all summer, the others all au natural, wimpy or not, and its blowing a gale aqnd bucketing. They all have natural shelter in their field, and the smart ones are under it! No reason if they've been living out to bring them in..

Horses would much rather be outside as long as they have a sufficient coat/rug (and most will grow a sufficient coat) even if its wet/colt/windy than stood in a box, that's called putting human feelings onto a horse.

Yep still out and won't come in till middle of December hopefully!! That's a shire x who won't be rugged till at least 5 degrees or below and then only a lightweight to keep rain off, only having a token feed when the pony is fed.

The pony has got a lightweight rug on and is being fed chaff/mix/fast fibre and on good grazing but she is 36 and arabx, she will prob go into a medium weight in next few weeks.

They're happier out in my experience and my friend and I can't contemplate mucking out yet!!

My TB hates being stabled - I even tried to section the shelter and about 40' outside it to keep her overnight but after only one night she was completley worked up and trashed the whole thing I gave up! She did fine last year just rugged with plenty of hay & feed so she will survive again this year. I'll hold off rugging her for as long as possible too.

My yearling will also live out and being a cob x NF will be naked, unless she feels cold/ we have days of rain/I get soft then she will have a lw rug on or stay in the shelter for a night.

Our 3 are still living out - a TB, a sec c and a native x - and will be all winter.

Welshie will probably stay unrugged all winter as well, although we're contemplating clipping some of her mammoth coat off this year so she might need a lw on when it's wet!

They'll probably come in overnight occasionally if we have spells of very horrible weather but will definitely be out 24/7 when the snow comes. I'd be much more worried about them doing damage to themselves on hard ground or in deep snow when 1st turned out in the morning and I'm not happy for any horse to be in all day unless absolutely necessary!

These are all really interesting as I am currently torn on two deciding whether to bring my TB in at night. I really cant decide which he would prefer. I wish he could talk :)
